What the course will give you
Radiation therapists, therapeutic radiographers, or radiotherapists work especially closely with radiation oncologists and medical physicists. They effectively design and administer radiation treatments and manage the wellbeing of primarily cancer patients. Their responsibility is to interpret the radiation oncologist’s prescription and develop a treatment plan.
The MSU diploma programme in radiotherapy (DRT) will teach you human anatomy and physiology, general and radiation physics, general and systemic pathology, basic human psychology and basic pharmacology, oncology, radiobiology, and radiation therapy imaging, among others. You will also be introduced to advanced radiotherapy techniques, professionalism and ethics, quality assurance, and basic management.

Where the qualification may lead you to
Upon successful completion of the programme, you may apply for Therapeutic Radiographer practice in government or private hospitals and medical centers. Companies that produce radiotherapy equipment hire Diagnostic Radiographers as their Application Specialists whose main job function is to help other radiographers learn how to use their products. You may also continue on to degree studies and set yourself up to become a lecturer.
Who may enrol
You need to have passed SPM or equivalent with at least FIVE (5) Credits including THREE (3) from Bahasa Malaysia, English, and Mathematics, ONE (1) from a Science subject (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, General Science, or Applied Science), and ONE (1) from any other subject; OR to have passed GCE O-level or equivalent with FIVE (5) Cs including TWO (2) from English and Mathematics, ONE (1) from a Science subject (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, General Science, or Applied Science), and TWO (2) from other subjects; OR to have obtained a Certificate in Health Sciences and at least 2.75 CGPA.
Diploma in Radiotherapy (DRT) is a three-year career-focused industry-developed programme by the Department of Healthcare Professional (DHP) at the MSU Faculty of Health & Life Sciences (FHLS).
