Instant Is Not The Way To Go, Advises MSU President In Presidential Address At 21st Convocation Ceremony Of Management And Science University (MSU)

Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid warned of how the culture of instant can blindside the unsuspecting into believing that success can be gained quickly or without much effort, when instead, competition and excellence lie at the very heart of success. The purpose of education is long-term transformation, and instant just does not align with excellence.

Reminding that convocation not only celebrates graduate success but also the University’s, the President of Management and Science University (MSU) drew examples of excellence from the University’s own commitment to it.

The culture of excellence is cultivated right from Day 1 at Management and Science University (MSU), with orientation and oath-taking institutionalizing it, and integration into the daily practices of life and learning instilling it. It is the culture driving MSUrians through the complete set of the University’s soft-skills modules, nurturing their well-roundedness into the 98.6% employability figure for MSU graduates as traced by Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE). It is also the culture that scored Management and Science University (MSU) 92% overall on the Indicator of Graduation on Time (IGOT), 98% for its International Medical School (IMS), and 97% for its medical students completing their housemanship. The very culture is the soul of the University’s every success, from winning MoHE’s Most Entrepreneurial Private University Award right through to winning the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation BrandLaureate Best in Education for Leadership and Human Capital Development Award

The graduating MSUrians were also reminded that the challenges today mirror neither those of yesterday nor of the future, which is why the will and the drive to succeed as well as to excel are must-have attributes. In facing the challenges of a global economy, graduates must not limit themselves but must grow.

In recommending to add value to competitiveness through lifelong learning, the MSU President urged the graduating MSUrians to look outward, beyond themselves, to the people around them, through whose support their success today is owed. He encouraged every MSU graduate to be a better person, one who learns that every success is owed to another. Life is all about contributing to others, and to be successful, the culture of excellence must be rooted in one’s self. So help other people, and keep learning. Maintain the higher purpose, embrace the soul of success.

Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid announced a Jumpstart Program being developed by the Management and Science University (MSU) Leadership and Development (LEAD) Centre of Excellence. With RM5 million in revolving seed funds, it will transform entrepreneurial aspirations into concrete plans for a hundred eligible aspiring entrepreneurs among MSUrians past and present.
