Malaysian Invention and Design Society competition awards two gold, three silver, and three bronze to Management and Science University (MSU).Management and Science University (MSU) won two gold, three silver, and three bronze medals at the 2018 edition of the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) organized by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS).

A total of eight medals for Management and Science University (MSU) from ITEX 2018

Contributors of the gold are Dr Muhd Ridzuan Pauzi from MSU’s International Medical School (IMS), who presented a new, natural antifungal cream called Dermacol; and Nur Shazwany Zamani, from MSU’s Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE), who presented a portable, lightweight, low-cost, high-accuracy writing machine.

The natural anti-fungal cream by Dr Muhd Ridzuan Pauzi has been scientifically proven to inhibit the fungus Trichophyton rubrum which significantly causes fungi skin infection. T. rubrum manifests itself on skin, hair, and nails in various forms of infection. These infections, though non-life-threatening, are difficult to cure and typically recur. The antimicrobial efficacy of the all-natural extract of betel leaves contained in Dermacol has been proven in another winning natural formulation by the same researcher.

Gold for faculty innovation at Research and Innovation Week 2018

The writing-machine project led by FISE lecturer Nur Shazwany Zamani offers customizable, true-to-life reproduction of text and graphics at half the current market price. Its capacity to plot, write, and draw on any flat surface and with any regular handheld writing implement such as fountain pens and permanent markers translates into amazing customization possibilities. The project is a collaboration with MSU faculty member Dr Mohamed N. Abdulrazaq, Cytron Technologies, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Two gold for MSU innovations at ITEX 2018

Dr Mohamed N. Abdulrazaq also contributed a silver with his “New Developed Technique for Welding Dissimilar Steels” invention. Other silver contributors are Dr Ruzaina Ishak from MSU’s Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS) with her “Development of Inulin as Sugar Replacer for Jelly Drink (Jelly-Lin)”, and Dr Neni Widiasmoro Selamat (FHLS) with “Interactive Animated Video for Parents and Caregivers of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder”.
