Translational, innovative research at 10th International Medical, Pharmaceutical, Cosmeceutical and Health Science Symposium of Management and Science University (MSU)

Students of Management and Science University (MSU) from across medical and health science recently participated in the university’s International Medical, Pharmaceutical, Cosmeceutical, and Health Science Symposium (iMPACHS).

The 10th iMPACHS, hosted by MSU’s International Medical School (IMS), carried the theme Translational and Innovative Research towards a Healthier Society.

Sixty-three top researchers presented their work via oral or poster presentations including e-posters. 



Poster presenters vying for the top-three posters award at MSU's 10th iMPACHS


Among their research projects were studies on self-medication practice among rural and urban communities in Selangor, malnutrition states of children 13-18 years old in KL orphanages, and microbial and chemical profiling of counterfeit lip cosmetic products found in local night markets.


The two-day programme was launched by MSU Senior Vice-President for Global Affairs and Strategic Communication Dato’ Rosli Yusof, who signed the launch gimmick of a research abstract symbolizing MSU’s efforts in promoting research.

The keynote address was delivered by professor of epidemiology and statistics Professor Dr Shamsul Azhar, who is also Director of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Medical Molecular Biology Institute (UMBI) and Head of UKM Medical Centre Department of Community Health.

Research papers selected at the 10th MSU iMPACHS will be published in the International Journal of Medical Toxicology and Legal Medicine and the Journal of Biomedical Research, both under SCOPUS.

The top-three awards for Best Poster Presenter went to Nurikhwani Husna (IMS), Chuah Pei Ni (SPH), and Vilasini a/p Chelliah (FHLS), whilst three others for Best Oral Presenter were awarded to Nurul Fateha Ashikin (IMS), Nareeta Kaur Narinder Singh (SPH), and Muhammad Shafuan Abu Bakar (FHLS).

The 10th-iMPACHS Junainah Abdul Hamid Award went to Muhammad Zharif Mohd Nizam from the School of Pharmacy (SPH).


The panel of judges at the 10th iMPACHS comprised Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Advanced Biotechnology and Breeding Centre research officer Dr Leow Soon Sen, SIRIM Bhd Industrial Biotechnology Research Centre senior research officer Dr Nurul Izza Nordin, Hospital Serdang Deputy Chief Pharmacist and clinical pharmacist Dr Farizan Abd Ghaffar, and University of Malaya Faculty of Dentistry Department of Restorative Dentistry Dr Anis Rager Mohammad Al-Maleki.

Formerly known as the Medical Health Science Symposium (MHSS), iMPACHS is a biannual event organized by MSU’s International Medical School (IMS), Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS), and School of Pharmacy (SPH).
