What the course will give you
A programme of research into computer science advances the state of the art through the contribution made by original research and enables you to become an expert in a technical subfield of computer science. You will not only gain valuable practical field experience but will also become a visible member of the research community through your publications in research journals and presentations at research conferences. You are required to produce a substantial thesis at the end of your studies on the PCS programme to be awarded the MSU degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science.
How long it will take you
Full-time: 2-6 years.
Part-time enrollment is possible.
Where the qualification may lead you to
Upon completing the doctoral program, you may set your own research direction, teach, or guide students. You may also and work at the forefront of cutting-edge research, whether in academia or an industrial laboratory. Your doctorate in computer science will equip you well for a life in academia and positions such as computer and/or information research scientist, which often requires it. Generally, you would have many career options open to you, both in the public and private sectors.
Who may enrol
Prospective applicants must have at least a Master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology and Communication or an equivalent qualification approved by MSU Senate.
Doctor of Philosophy (Computer Science) (PCS) is a research programme by the MSU School of Graduate Studies (SGS).
