What the course will give you
The curriculum of the MSU diploma programme in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) uniquely integrates basic knowledge of modern and conventional medical practices with traditional and complementary ones. You will learn the theory, diagnostics, and formulii of traditional Chinese medicine including Meridian and Point, also health preservation, traumatology, and TCM orthopaedics.
You will be taught by experienced, industry-expert TCM practitioners. The learning opportunities and experiences we provide will add depth and breadth to your understanding and develop both your vocational and life skills. You graduate with the expected capability of diagnosing on both modern and traditional Chinese medical knowledge, prescribing modern and traditional Chinese treatments and medications, also practising traditional Chinese medicine within the healthcare industry.
TCM practitioners/physicians are regulated by the Malaysian TCM Practitioners Board governed by the Ministry of Health (MOH) through the Traditional & Complementary Medicine Act.
How long it will take you
Where the qualification may lead you to
You could work in specialized Chinese pharmaceutical industry or the healthcare industry in general, also agencies such as the Ministry of Health. Besides the industry’s immediate Junior or Assistant positions to Acupuncturists, TCM Therapists, or Pharmacists, you may also seek positions of academia, tutoring the subject, or further your own study. Chinese hospitals/clinics and Chinese medicine suppliers are also potential employers.
Who may enrol
You need at least a Credit in any THREE (3) subjects at SPM/SPMV level and a Pass in Science and Mathematics OR a Pass Certificate recognized by the Ministry of Health’s Department of Traditional & Contemporary Medicine (T&CM) plus one year working experience in a relevant field OR a PTPL Certificate in a relevant field OR an equivalent qualification recognized by MSU Senate.
Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine (DTCM) is a three-year career-focused industry-developed programme of MSU’s School of Pharmacy.
