About the Course
The Bachelor of Counselling and Guidance (Hons.) is designed to provide students with the knowledge, professional skills and competencies in the field of Counseling. The programme is also structured to develop a deeper understanding of local cultural realities and moral values in the helping relationship, with the knowledge of psychology, sociology, counselling skills and guidance activities by incorporating theories into practice.The MSU-BCG programme can be considered to be unique in the country because the programme includes a very interesting combination of subjects, which are, as wide-ranging as Industrial Counseling to Multicultural Counselling and Drug Abuse Counselling. Such intense exposure to a wide range of subjects increases the number of opportunities that are available for students. Prospective graduates can come into our programme by joining the Bachelor in Counseling and Guidance programme directly or by doing a Diploma in Counselling & Guidance and get credit exemptions. Diploma students who join our programme can get a maximum of 10 subjects exempted.

Entry Requirement

(i) Pass STPM with minimum Grade C in 3 subjects including Pengajian Am/Kertas Am (General Studies/General Paper);


A pass in STPM with minimum Grade C in 2 subjects including Pengajian Am/Kertas Am (General Studies/General Paper) and Grade D for 2 other subjects;


(ii) Ministry of Education (KPM) Matriculation Certificate or MSU Foundation Certificate;


(iii) Diploma from PTPL/MSU, or Certificate/Diploma from Polytechnic/IPT;


(iv) Pass at least 3 subjects in A-Level (GCE);


(v) Pass The South Australian Matriculation (SAM) with minimum score of 65% - 70%;;


(vi) Pass Canadian Pre University Programme (CPU) with minimum score of 80%;


(vii) Pass Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with at least grade B in 5 subjects;


(viii) other equivalent qualification recognised by Malaysian Government

  • Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
  • Government Departments or Private Agencies
  • Hospitals / Counselling Centres
  • Rehabilitation Centres, Mental Health Centres
  • Non-Governmental Organization / Social Service Organization / Welfare Home / Private Welfare Homes.

Other Information
With the enforcement of Counsellor Act 1998, graduates who wish to take up employment as a counsellor or to use the title as ‘registered counsellor’ in their counselling practices should first register with Malaysian Board of Counsellors (Lembaga Kaunselor).
