Foundation in Business & Accounting

Introduction

Foundation in Business & Accounting is introduced in view of the rapid expansion of the business sector which contributes to the high achievement of the Malaysian economy. It has always been the government’s aspiration to see increasing participation in the professional and entrepreneurship field to support the country’s vision to become a progressive country by year 2020.

The increasing demand for professionals in Business Management and Accounting requires more graduates with excellent knowledge and skills in these areas. Through this programme, students will have a better understanding of subject matters like Business Mathematics, Statistics, Business Management, Accounting and Economics before they embark upon various programmes at the Bachelor degree level.

Objective

The objectives of this program are:

1. To provide students with the basic knowledge of business and accounting.
2. To expose students to theories of business and accounting management to assist them in making decisions.
3. To encourage active learning by using various interactive teaching techniques such as group discussions and projects.
4. To produce knowledgeable and highly competent students in the areas of business and accounting.

Learning Outcome

Upon completion of this programme, students should be able to:

1. Apply their knowledge in business and accounting in their daily lives.
2. Identify current and future opportunities in the arena of business and accounting.
3. Relate to current issues and development in the critical areas of business and accounting.
4. Improve their decision making skills related to business and accounting operations and management.
5. Adapt themselves to the challenging world of business and accounting.

Duration

One year, 3 full semesters.

1. Business Mathematics
2. Statistics
3. Business Management
4. Accounting
5. Economics

Progression

Upon completion of the Foundation programme, students may choose to do a Bachelor degree programme of their choice at MSU or progress to higher level education at foreign universities in countries like UK, USA and Australia under the International Students Exchange Programme (ISEP).

Areas of specialization that the students may choose at the Bachelor degree level at MSU or universities abroad include International Business, Accounting, Decision Science, Investment Management, Industrial Management and Hospitality Management.

Entry Requirements

1. Candidates will have to pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM or SPMV) examination or equivalent with credits 5 (FIVE) subjects that are:
   1. Bahasa Melayu, Mathematics, Science and any of related subjects
      1. Economics, Accounting and Trade
         
         AND
         
         
2. Pass in English

Fees Structure

Your investment for a full time programme is RM11,100 (Tuition fees). Students may apply for MSU and other financial assistance.
