Foundation in Law

Introduction

The Foundation in Law programme is developed to meet increasing needs for experts in the legal profession and legislative area. The major involvement of Malaysians in this field will be a positive indicator of the development of a proactive nation. Exposure to the Malaysian legal system, laws and legal methods will prepare students to be a well trained workforce needed to support the country administration, businesses and services in the era of globalization in preparing for challenges of the 21st century.

Objective

The objectives of this program are:

  1. To provide the students with an understanding of the legal system and laws in the country in as a guide in solving case studies.
  2. To produce students who are well trained in addressing issues and solving cases that they will encounter in the legal areas with the applications of theory and practical in the subjects offered.
  3. To produce knowledgeable students in the legislative area as well as to upgrade the efficiency in solving problems with regards to the National Law.
  4. To instill in students the interest and responsibility and to understand the problems involving the human interactions.

Learning Outcome

Upon completion of this programme, students should be able to:

  1. Improve their understanding about the legal system and legislative area in this country.
  2. Comprehend how the legal system works and identify how laws are applied in solving cases.
  3. Improve their decision making skills and sharpen their critical thinking ability.
  4. Relate to current issues and development in the areas of business and organizational law.
  5. Adapt with the current and future challenges and development of the legal environment.

Duration

One year, 3 full semesters.

Core Subjects

Among the main subjects that students will learn are:

  1. Sociology
  2. Political Science
  3. The Legal System
  4. Law and Legal Methods

Progression

Students who have completed Foundation in Law will be able to enroll in Law programmes at a higher level or pursue their Bachelor degree in Law and Commerce at MSU.

Students may also choose to further studies at foreign universities under the International Students Exchange Programme (ISEP) which is a unique joint venture between MSU and its partner universities in countries like UK, USA and Australia.

Entry Requirements

  1. Candidates will have to pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM or SPMV) examination or equivalent with credits 5 (FIVE) subjects that are:
    1. Bahasa Melayu, Mathematics, Science and any of related subjects
      1. Economics, Accounting and Trade

        AND

  2. Pass in English

Fees Structure

Your investment for a full time programme is RM11,100 (Tuition fees). Students may apply for MSU and other financial assistance.
