Diploma of Event Management

Introduction:

The Diploma of Event Management (DEM) is a diploma academic program that leverages on a unique learning opportunity in the combined disciplines of event and management. Students pursuing the programme will be exposed in the 'know how' and 'hands on' training in both the event and management areas of practices. As such, graduates of the programme are expected to be competent to handle the common event practices as well as becoming the forefront supervisors and lower level managers that are able to advice on routine decision making process of the job scope.

The DEM is conducted over the period of two-years on a semester basis (four long and three short semesters), where students will major in event and management areas. Given such academic exposure, graduates of the DEM, therefore, would be in an advantage position to find career opportunities not only in the government sector, but more importantly, in the private and corporate sector. As for the latter career opportunities, graduates are most encouraged to further their study to degree and masters level.

Core Subject Description:

o The Event Industry - Student will be exposed to the event activities. The theoretical aspect will enhance the basic knowledge of the event concepts and the practical aspects will enhance students hands-on skills and the running and maneuvering event business.

o Event Practices - Effective event management requires a broad range of knowledge and skills, along with the ability to recognize appropriate requirements in complex and unpredictable circumstances. The modules apply both theories and practices in conducting event.

o Convention, Meeting & Exhibition - Student will be exposed to the event convention and exhibition activities through active academic and trade research and commercial developments.

o Tourism & Leisure Environment - Student will be exposed to the event internationalization activities through active academic and trade research and commercial developments.

o Arts & Contemporary Leisure - Student will be exposed to the event activities. The theoretical aspect will enhance the basic knowledge of the event concepts and the practical aspects will enhance students hands-on skills and the running and maneuvering event business.

Entrance Requirement:

The minimum entry requirements for this programme are:

(a) SPM/SPVM with credit in three subjects/Certificate programme from Polytechnic, IPTA or accredited IPTS programme or equivalent.

Expected Salary

Public Sector: Basic starting monthly salary is around RM900.00; plus allowances (such as housing and entertainment) the total can amount to around RM1,300..00

Private Sector: The amount of basic starting monthly salary can vary from the above amount. However, the total amount of monthly salary earned (inclusive of allowances) is subject to negotiation and which can be higher than that earned in the public sector.
