Bachelor in Forensic Science (Hons)

Introduction

This program aims at integrating the knowledge, attitude and skills in forensic sciences across the curriculum. The students will be provided with the knowledge and skills in investigate the crime case and also integrate scientific theory and practical training that will be required to work in a highly specialized forensic laboratory. Students will learn the various theories of crime and deviance in society that form the basis of criminal law and criminal justice system of the country. Upon graduation, graduates will be able to perform crime scene investigation, analysis and report writing and expert in the court of law. Also appreciate the concept of a civil community that respects the rights and property of others and abhors violence, theft and exploitation of others.

Core Subject Description:

Fundamental Science
Students will be provided with basic knowledge on organic chemistry, physical chemistry, cell biology & genetics, biochemistry, microbiology and anatomy & physiology.

Major Biology
Basic pathology, histopathology, forensic anthropology, forensic entomology, forensic medicine and forensic DNA profiling

Major Chemistry
Pharmacology & toxicology, document analysis, forensic chemistry, fire investigation, forensic pharmacology & toxicology.

Forensic Science
Students will be exposed to forensic area which includes Introduction to Forensic Science, Crime Scene Investigation, Physical evidence analysis, Firearms and Ballistic, Criminology, Forensic Psychology, Criminal Law, Forensic Computer and special topics in forensic science.

Entrance Requirement:

  1. Minimum requirement (STPM candidates)
    1. Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Candidates will have to pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination or equivalent with credits in Bahasa Malaysia or Bahasa Melayu (SyllabusX)/Bahasa Malaysia II
           AND
    2. Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) or equivalent Candidates will have to pass Sijil Tinggi Peperiksaan Malaysia (STPM) examination with at least:
      1. Pass with C grade in 3 subjects including General Studies paper
             OR
      2. Pass with C grade in 2 subjects including General Studies, and another 2 subjects with D grade

       OR

  2. Malaysian Ministry of Education’s Matriculation Certificate or MSU foundation or equivalent qualification from other institution approved by Malaysian Ministry of Education and recognized by LAN;
       OR
  3. Minimum passes 3 subjects of A ‘Level’ (GCE).
       OR
  4. Minimum 65-70% score for The South Australian Matriculation (SAM)
       OR
  5. Minimum 80% score for Canadian Pre-University Program (CPU).
       OR
  6. Diploma in related fields from PTPL/ MSU or Diploma/Certificate in related fields from Polytechnics, IPTA or accredited IPTS or other institutions recognized by the Senate of Management and Science University (MSU).
