Introduction
Traditional Chinese medicine is a rapidly expanding profession and an obvious growth area for integrated and interdisciplinary professional training. This degree program will have strong emphasis on a professional interdisciplinary approach and on research and innovation in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The graduates will be trained professionally in handling clinical cases involve diagnosing and treatment aspects. This program also provides graduated with high-level skills applicable to a broad scientific career.
Traditional Chinese medicine is a science of comparison which requires a serious eye for details and a willingness to be patient when trying to master a new technique. This course will challenge the students to use their deductive reasoning skills. Through its curriculum which integrates the knowledge, attitude and skill components, the graduates are well-prepared to meet the challenging endeavor as the alternative medical practitioner. This program also would serve as platform for its graduates to pursue their career pathway in the traditional medicine areas particularly in herbal medicine as a practitioner and also researcher. The curriculum also allows academically inclined graduates to further their studies towards post-graduate levels especially in the other traditional medicine disciplines and scientific research.

Core Subject Description:
Human Anatomy & Physiology & Fundamental Medicine
Various systems of normal human bodies, the structure, location and mutual relationship of organs, localization of body surface of important viscera and main nerves and vessels and frequently used bone and muscle marks so as to help students understand the relationship between anatomy and clinical work. Other fundamental medicine theories include Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Immunology & Serology, Bio-ethics and Nursing.
Fundamental Chinese Medicine Theory
Systemically learn theories of Yin and Yang and Five elements, physiological and pathological knowledge about Zang Xiang, Jing-lou, essence, spirit, blood and fluid. Also study on the fundamental theories about the etiology, pathogenesis and the prevention and therapeutic principles of diseases and the basic diagnostic and treatment principles based on syndrome differentiation.
Chinese Medicine Diagnostics
Through lectures and practical, students will master the fundamental of 4 Diagnostic Methods, 8 Principles, vital essence, blood and fluid, acquire theories and knowledge of 6 Meridians, Wei-qi-ying-xue, differentiation of Triple Energizers.
Chinese Materia Medica
Systemically learn the four natures of drugs, five kinds of drug flavors, direction and tendencies of the action of drugs, channel tropism, contraindication. Students will also learn the basic knowledge of 350 frequently Chinese Materia Medica includes the performance, function, objective treatment, medicinal formula as well as the differentiation of Chine Materia Medica.
Formulas of Chinese Medicine
Systemically learn fundamental theories of Chinese Medical Formulas such as the treatment principles, constitution principles, modification, types and decoction methods. Students are required to master the application of certain Chinese Patent Medicine and the basic knowledge of composition, function, application, medicinal formula significance and modification of about 120 frequently used formulas.
Clinical Specialty Courses
These include Western Internal Medicine, Chinese Internal Medicine, Surgery of Chinese Medicine, Emergency Traditional Chinese Medical, Rehabilitation of Traditional Chinese Medical, Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Chinese Medical Traumatology & Orthopedics and Chinese Tuina.
Entrance Requirement:
- Candidates will have to pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination or equivalent with credits in Bahasa Malaysia and pass in General Science or Pure Science
OR
- Pass Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) or other equivalent qualification in science with CGPA 2.5
OR
- Pass STPM in non-science stream with credit of 2 science subjects in SPM
OR
- Pass STPM with fully pass of General Studies paper and half pass in two other subjects
OR
- Diploma in TCM or other equivalent diploma with at least CGPA 2.5
OR
- Diploma in TCM or other equivalent diploma with at least CGPA 2.0 and 2 years working experience in related fields
OR
- Pass Malaysian Ministry of Education’s Matriculation Certificate with CGPA 2.0
OR
- ‘A’ level/Foundation or equivalent
OR
- Any diploma from IPT which recognized by TCM Division
OR
- Degree holder of any disciplines and recognized by the University Senate.
