Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology

Introduction

Medical Laboratory Technology also called Clinical Laboratory Science is an allied health profession which is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease through the use of clinical laboratory tests. This program provides an opportunity for education and training in all of the major disciplines of Medical Science Laboratory. It is offered for students from general science/biomedical science or applied science that have a biological sciences focus. The program is designed to provide a vocationally oriented qualification, which will prepare graduates for employment in diagnostic pathology, medical research, biological manufacturing or the pharmaceutical industry.

Core Subject Description

Clinical Biochemistry
Student will be doing chemical analysis of body fluids such as blood and urine.

Pathology
Study of human diseases and identify the cause of those diseases and their effect to human body.

Anatomy and Physiology
Study of structure of human body and its function.

Parasitology
Study of parasite including worms and insects that cause harmful effect on human body.

Hematology
Study of the blood function and its diseases.

Cytology
Study of the cell particularly about the cells related to female reproductive system. Also taught skill on preparing slide to diagnose diseses cells and tissues.

Entrance Requirement

Minimum entry qualification:

SPM with 5 credits including BM, Mathematic and one science subject (priority biology) and two other subjects

OR

Certificate from IPTA and IPTS with accreditation
