Diploma in Business Computing
Introduction:
As the information technology industry has grown, so have the related educational opportunities. One of it is business computing field. Nowadays, business and computing has merged and grow even greater every day. The combination of business and technology services or computer field focuses on advising businesses on how best to use information technology to meet their business objectives. In addition, working with computers or information technology (IT) together with business can be both exciting and challenging. Computers are concerned primarily with the processing of information, which is found in many forms, including information required for business transactions, booking seats for travel or entertainment, information on materials and products made during the manufacturing processes. Besides that, it provides student with the fundamentals of business, marketing, accounting and computer science. Graduates from Diploma Business Computing can pursue their career in business and computer science related field.

Core Subject Description:
First Year:
Introduction To Information Technology
This course provides a basic understanding of the computer system organization including hardware and software. It provides knowledge on software package and its application in problem solving. It also exposes the students to basic computer and the usage of relevant packages.
Introduction To Programming
This course introduces the students to C programming, C operation and phrase, control structure phrase and functions. Students also will be exposed to array for 1 and 2 dimensions, input/output file and structure.
Basic Discrete Mathematics
This course covers the introduction to set and its operation, logic, mathematical induction, permutation, combination, probability, relation and diagraph, function and graph theory. A wide variety of applications of computer science related to this course will be introduced.
Foundation of Business
This course will relate the functions in business such as business environment, forms of business ownership and organizational management which includes management styles, staff recruitment, marketing, finance, operation management and production and current issues in business world. This knowledge will help the student to make decisions based on the information and understanding from the course.
Microeconomics
This course discusses the basic of microeconomic theory through the production possibility curve theory, demand and supply theory, consumer choice theory, production and cost theory, market structure and labor and wages.
Data Structure and Algorithm
This course discusses the basic data structure concepts which cover array, structure, pointer, linked list, stacks, queue, tree, graph, sorting and hasting. Emphasis will be given on the way of implementing data structure consisting of various operations which particularly gives more concern on memory usage and processing time.
System Analysis & Design
This course emphasizes on the basic concepts in developing an information system. It covers the survey phase of system analysis, system specification (data and process modeling), system design (database, input/output, interface and software), system implementation and system support. Students will apply the concepts learned in a project which will de done in a group.
Statistics and Probabilities
This course will discuss on basic statistics concept, its usage, its importance in industries and its relation with probability.
Practices of Management
Students will learn topics related to managing in the 21st century and the foundation of modern management, global management, organizational culture and ethics, decision making and planning and identifying objectives, strategic management, organizing, organizational design, staffing, leading, motivation, communication, teamwork and managing change.
Macroeconomics
This course discusses macroeconomic theory through the national income accounting, investment, public sector, money and banking, business cycle and inflation and unemployment and international trade and finance.
Business Communication
This course is designed to increase the students’ awareness of the functions and importance of communication in the business arena. This course will focus on the goals of an organization. Special emphasis will be placed on the strategic communications.
Second Year
Visual Basic Programming
This course introduces the students to Visual Basic.Net programming, sub procedure and functions, control structure statements, array in 1 and 2 dimensions, file processing and database.
Database System
This course provides an introduction to database: the concepts and basic terminologist, data model-hierarchical, network and relational, database design, SQL, issues in databases-integrity and security, current issues in databases.
Human Resource Management
This course introduces the functions, practices and methods of human resource management that can enhance the organizational effectiveness. It focuses on planning, development, and retention and employer-employee relations in an organization.
Principles of E-Business
This course covers the overview of electronic commerce, electronic business and its impact on business practices. The focus is on the technology of e-commerce, the business models and strategies adopted by firms for the new economy. It also includes the supply chains, network, customer relationship management and future developments in e-business.
Principle of Finance
This course emphasizes on the theory, concept and the financial principle in the local financial institutions. Students also will be introduced to the time value of money, tools for financial information analysis and to the financial prediction.
Principle of Marketing
This course will discuss the concept of marketing and marketing management. Students are going to analyze consumer behaviors and marketing research which include product, promotion, price determination, distribution channel, management and marketing strategies.
Multimedia Technology
This course covers the basic understanding on multimedia concept, hardware and multimedia computer software. Student are also exposed to the current functions of multimedia software packages, multimedia application concept, multimedia elements, project management and multimedia application design, multimedia future and current issues regarding multimedia.
Internet Programming
This course introduces the essential topics of internet programming. It includes the design of internet as well as the writing of programs to communicate and exchange information around the world via the internet. Programs will manipulate many types of data including hypertext, graphics, video, audio and use of forms.
Information System
This course introduces the basic concepts of understanding and analyzing information in organization. Major topics include an introduction and development to the information system in organizations, executive information system (EIS), decision support system (DSS), management information system (MIS), accounting information system (AIS), financial management system (FMS), human resources information system (HRIS), marketing information system and manufacturing information system.
Operations Management
This course explains the management methods used in the production and service organization. Among the methods are demand forecasting method, capacity requirement planning, techniques in layout, determination of economic order quantity, source acquisition methods, project scheduling and other methods used as well as JIT and Bench Marking concept.
Project
This course covers training to students in the area of management, administration, economics, finance and accounting, programming, web development, database system and management of e-commerce portal. At the end of the training, student are required to prepare reports on their activities, knowledge acquired and experiences during the training.
Entrance Requirement:
- Certificate in Business Management PTPL with a pass in all subjects
OR
- Pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or its equivalent with:
- 3 honours (credit) in any subjects
OR
- Certificate from Politeknik, Public Institute of higher Learning (IPTA) and other qualifications recognized by MSU Senate.
