Diploma in Computer Forensic
Introduction:
Computer Forensic is the study of detection and investigation of crime committed on or via computers and computer networks. Examples of computer-related criminal activity include fraud, pornography, harassment, copyright offences, organized crime and computer misuse. Due to increasing police awareness of the importance of computer-based evidence in criminal cases, there is an expanding need for computer professionals with the abilities to reliably handle sensitive and irreplaceable materials, to investigate those materials in an appropriate manner, and then to prepare appropriate reports to legal personnel. The skills required by the computer forensic specialist are therefore very broad - deeply technical on the one hand, highly professional on the other.
Diploma in Computer Forensic (DCF) has been developed to produce support forensics specialists who has the knowledge in the legal and investigative processes, and skilled in the field of computing, especially security.
Entry Requirements:
- Certificate in Science Computer PTPL with a pass in all subjects
OR
- Pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or its equivalent with:
- 3 honours (credit) in any subjects; priority given Mathematics
OR
- Certificate from Polytechnic, Public Institute Of Higher Learning (IPTA) and other qualification recognized by MSU senate.
Objectives
The objectives of the program are to:
- provide students with a technical skills and competencies in the field of forensic computing thus producing competent and confident graduates.
- produce students who will have a hands on knowledge and able to perform technical role in forensic computing field.
- equip students with right skills thus enabling them to adapt real working environment, while contributing positively to the society at large.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, graduates are able to:
- apply appropriate skills and knowledge in solving computer forensics problems.
- display their competence in the various forensic computing field.
- apply their theoretical and practical knowledge in forensic computing, into the future and emerging technology d) perform competitively as a technical support in any organization.
Duration
Two years and 6 months (5 full semesters & 2-3 short semesters) full time study.

Some of the job functions in computer forensics are:
- Investigate and uncover evidence of illegal activities conducted via computer, such as credit-card fraud, intellectual-property theft, pedophilia, terrorism and computer system intrusion (hacking). Illegal activities conducted via computer are generally referred to as "computer crimes" or "cyber crimes".
- Investigate and uncover evidence of crimes that weren't directly committed via computer, but for which the accused might have stored evidence on computer data storage devices.
- Detect and close computer system security holes through "legal" hacking.
