The Diploma in Graphic Design - (DGD) is a diploma programme that requires students to plans and executes the design of visual communication according to the needs of audiences in the context for which communication is intended.
The content and competencies of the program required students to develop an individual for career entry as a professional graphic designer at the end of the study in graphic design. This program defines the common body of knowledge and skills necessary for the professional practice of graphic design. Students can develop their potential beyond this base as they continue to work and study.
The DGD is conducted over the period of two-years on a semester basis (five long and two to three short semesters), where students will major in graphic design. Given such academic exposure, graduates of the DGD, therefore, would be in an advantage position to find career opportunities not only in the government sector, but more importantly, in the private and corporate sector.
History of Graphic Design
This course will give preliminary exposure to students to learn and appreciate graphic art from the aspects of history, principle and its functions in the society and its development in different societies that is influenced by their beliefs, religions, social-economic backgrounds and their cultural heritage.
Graphic Design I: Graphic Design Basic
This course is an introduction to design basic which is a popular introduction to two-dimensional design. Student will find a comprehensive introduction to the field of graphic design that stresses theory and creative development.
Typography
The course is designed to give the student an overview of the type and to enlighten the student on how to identify and create excellent typography.
Drawing I: Basic Drawing Technique
This course provides an overview of the methods and tools used for drawing. Students will develop a better understanding of the forms you are observing and become more skillful in representing those forms.
Computerised Graphic I: Digital Illustration
This module provides students with methods of conceptualizing, organizing and executing illustrations using the computer.
Drawing II: Life Drawing
This course designed to allow the student to further develop his/her skills in life drawing and to begin to develop his/her work more independently.
Graphic Design II: Graphic Design Process
This subject discuss the basic problem-solving techniques applicable to graphic design project. Students will also learn the approach of developing project using the problem-solving model from initial design concept to execution of the final printed piece.
Illustration
This course provides a deeper understanding of the illustration. Assigned projects will give students exposure to advertising, editorial, and other modes of illustration for a variety of print media.
Computerised Graphic II: Image Manipulation
This course is designed to explore photo retouching, image manipulation and the creation of original artwork using computers and appropriate software.
Advertising Design 1: Introduction to Advertising
This subject will teach about introduction and environment in advertising also six key issues in advertising and market process.
Interactive Media I: Multimedia Introductory
This course will cover all the components and functions of related computer and technology, and also technology trend in the next future such as multimedia and telecommunication in Malaysia. Student also will be exposes to the evolution, applications, multimedia basic requirements element of multimedia and multimedia element such as text, audio, video, animation and graphic on computer.
Visual Communication
This course introducing visual communications as an exploration into the idea that memorable visual messages with text have the greatest power to inform, educate and persuade an individual. This course is a thorough introduction to the many theories and practical (hands-on) aspects of visual culture and communications.
Graphic Design III: Desktop Publishing
This course is a "hands-on" introduction to the microcomputer hardware and software used to perform electronic page layout.
Photography
This course emphasises hands-on activities to expose students to the ways of using the camera, the studio lights, and other tools.
Computerised Graphic III: 2D Animation
This course is an exposure to students in designing and producing a model using the computer, techniques to form skeletal, timing and lip synch. The students will be exposed to software application for animation production.
Packaging Design I: Fundamental of Packaging
This module will demonstrate to students all the basic principles and design for the art of packaging.
Advertising Design II: Creative Development in Advertising
This course will explain the process of advertising design from early stage, which is ideation until last stage that will produce a high-quality advertisement. Among the aspect to be learnt are the concepts and advertising background, creativity and advertising strategies and also the advertising capabilities.
Packaging Design II: Packaging Graphics
Student will exposed to the techniques of 3D computer software in creating a contemporary packaging design. This module will teach and expose to students on both conventional and digital methods of designing a packaging design.
Graphic Design IV: Corporate Identity
This subject will discuss more about how to become a versatile graphic designer with the right kind of personality. The students will be given projects that require them to plan and design a certain product and to promote and sell the product.
Computerised Graphic IV: 3D Animation
Advertising Design III: Copywriting
This course help student to learn how to write effective copy for all types of electronic media with an emphasis on commercial writing.
Interactive Media II: Interactive Design
This course will give students the knowledge of designing multimedia for CD-ROM and web into an interactive whole. Students will examine design and interaction principles in their studies.
Advertising Design IV: Advertising Campaign
This course emphasises on visual campaign. It also emphasis how to develop a creative advertising marketing plan, the significant of creative process to achieve a goal.
Major Project
This course need students to involve in working professionally on their final projects and creative folios that able to put them on the same level of achievement and professionalism with other diploma graduates from other art school.
