Diploma in Information Technology (Mobile & Wireless Technology)

Introduction:

The Diploma in Information Technology (Mobile And Wireless Technology) is specially designed to offer practical skills and is very much an industry-driven course. This course has been designed to produce a new variety of IT specialists who are well versed in network infrastructure and its management and are capable of developing mobile applications and services on top of the infrastructure.

Mobile devices that contain sophisticated operating systems are becoming one of the most pervasive technological products that are finding large-scale penetration in both business and consumer markets. This course is able to develop new and exciting applications for these exciting and emerging mobile and wireless devices. The job market for mobile application developers has rapidly increased over the last few years and a diverse number of roles are available for software engineers within the mobile and wireless industry.

Diploma in Information Technology (Mobile and Wireless Technology) will put students firmly in the driving seat of an exciting future in the field of mobile and wireless technology.

Core Subject Description:

Analogue and Digital Electronic
This course is an introduction to basic electronic and digital system, which specialized in electronic field. This subject will cover two topic; the fundamental of electrical circuit and electronic devices in engineering environment. It is including basic concept and operation of the electronic devices such as diodes, transistor BJT and transistor FET.

Antenna and Propagation
This course will introduce to transmission line theory in communication systems and its waveguide such as rectangular waveguide and its field equation. It’s also introduced the various type of radiowave propagation such as in ground, space and in sky. In antenna principles its will cover the antenna characteristics, fundamentals and its basic structures.

Internet & Mobile Marketing
This course will cover topics such as the introduction to Internet marketing, Internet macro-environment, Internet marketing strategy, mobile advertising model, mobile commerce and mobile spam.

Mobile Network Architectures
The course gives a comprehensive guide to building wireless and mobile networks and services. Based on advanced wireless and mobile network architectures, Personal Communication Services (PCS) offers the enterprise freedom of communication through mobility. This course also exposes students on the world of wireless and mobile networks, from the enabling technologies and protocols to creating and managing mobile services.

Mobile Programming Using J2ME
This course introduces mobile application programming with the use of J2ME as the development tool. The course starts off with a general introduction to mobile application in the form of MIDlet. Through out this course, students will learn the J2ME syntax and commands to enable them to understand mobile application development and create their own simple mobile applications. In this course, samples mobile programs will be used to assist the delivery of the concepts and the logic of mobile programming. At the end of this course, students are expected to produce a slightly complex working mobile application in groups as part of their assessment.

Mobile Media and Applications
This course discusses the concept of mobile computing. It covers the history and development of cellular phone networks. Various types of mobile application are also covered. Issues related to the mobile work force for enterprise applications are also discussed.

Mobile Operating System
This course helps the students to comprehend on mobile architecture. Students will be exposed to covering mobile operating system issues and discuss operating system concepts as they are applied to mobile operating systems.

Wireless Technologies
This course will explain on how wireless technology works, why its impact on the networking industry is so significant, how technology relates to others such as WiMAX and cellular, and the role of the technology will play in the future. This subject focuses the capabilities and mechanism of the evolving IEEE standards.

Mobile System development
This course introduces the students to build high-value mobile system development that take advantage of IT infrastructures. It also exposes the students to add mobility features to existing mobile solutions. After a comprehensive analysis of the landscape and trends of the J2ME platform, student can uses the source code of several real-world applications to illustrate the design, architecture and best practices of end-to-end smart mobile solutions.

Entry Requirements:

  1. Certificate In Business Management PTPL with a pass in all subjects
    OR
  2. Pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or its equivalent with:
    1. 3 honours (credit) in any subjects
      OR
  3. Certificate from Polytechnic, Public Institute of Higher Learning (IPTA) and other qualification recognized by MSU senate.
