Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons)

Introduction

Pharmacist is a health professional with the skills and knowledge to manage a patient’s understanding and utilization of medication in order to optimize medicines related to health outcomes. The Bachelor of Pharmacy is designed to provide graduates with the core skills and knowledge required for effective participation in the delivery of pharmaceutical care and the ability to proceed to research. The degree covers the study of the chemical, physical , pharmaceutical and pharmacological properties of medical substances and the application of these in the practice of pharmacy. Graduates have the ability to serve the community and improve the quality of use of medicines. They also have the opportunity, as professional pharmacists, to improve the quality of life of the people.

Core Subject Description

Pharmacy Practice
Student will be taught to the concept and principles of pharmacy practices. They will be introduced to the calculation and preparation of various kinds and various strength of medication, and their standard packaging procedures.

Designing of dosage form
This topic deals with the formulation and processing aspects of various dosage forms, such as tablet, capsule, dermatological preparation, transdermal preparation, aerosol and inhalation preparations, sustained-release product, buccal preparation and nanoparticulate system. Finally, they will taught on the correlation between the design of dosage form against bioavailability of drug.

Pharmacotherapeutics
Student will learn of the physiological function of the various systems and diseases involving and also their pathophysiology such as central and peripheral nervous system, endocrine, cardiovascular and respiratory. Students also will learn to help patients in preventing and eliminating their diseases, together with other members of the health care team

Pharmacognosy
This course covers the aspects of pharmacognosy, botany, functions, pharmacological activity, analysis methods, phytochemistry and phytopharmacy of various chemicals extracted from plants.

Physical Pharmacy
In this topic student will be introduced to the physico-chemical characteristics of drugs and solutions, explained the solubility, ionization, and the stability of drugs under certain conditions.

Community Pharmacy
The students will be introduced to prescription items, over the counter preparations, health supplements and medical tests such as blood glucose, pregnancy and the medical devices that are commonly sold to the public in the retail pharmacy.

 

Entry Requirements:

Minimum entry qualifications for students are as follows;

  1. Passed STPM with CGPA 3 and above including Chemistry
  2. Passed A Level with 3B including Chemistry
  3. Matriculation CGPA 3 and above
  4. Any Diploma in Science CGPA 3.8 and above
  5. Foundation in Science with 3B including Chemistry and CGPA 3 and above
  6. First Degree in Science CGPA 2.5 and above
