Born and raised in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Gibran Munaff Habeeb Muhamad graduated with a Bachelor of Computer Forensics at Management and Science University (MSU) in Malaysia in 2021.
The university enabled him to thrive academically and personally thanks to Malaysia’s multicultural and welcoming environment.
“I didn’t feel like an outsider as Malaysians treated me like their own. My lecturers and even restaurant owners were helpful,” he said. Sometimes, they let me eat now and pay later when I was low on funds. That kindness stayed with me.”
Reflecting on his journey, Gibran credits much of his success to the foundation he built at MSU.
“MSU gave me more than a degree. It taught me how to live, adapt, and connect with people from all walks of life," he said. He fondly remembers his days in Shah Alam, staying at apartments and bonding with MSU students. “Even during tough times, people helped me. That’s something I will never forget.”
“From the first day of orientation, I knew I made the right choice. Malaysia was beautiful, and MSU felt like home."
After completing his tertiary education in Malaysia, he describes his decision as one of the best.
"I was aiming for the UK or the US at first," Gibran shared, "but my uncle suggested Malaysia. I looked it up, spoke to MSU's International Office and was convinced.”
After completing regular his classes at MSU, he arrived in the UAE during the pandemic's peak in early 2021. Over the past five years, he has steadily climbed the ranks and received promotions across various departments. His achievements include twice being awarded Best Employee of the Year, a recognition of his dedication, efficiency, and talent for building client loyalty.
“I started with an internship at a small IoT firm. Then, through a colleague’s referral, I got an interview at MLS Group. I began as an intern at the airport, and my work ethic caught the attention of the SVP. That’s how I moved into accounts, and later, to the sales and business development team.”
Today, Gibran is a Customer Relationship Officer with the Emirates Group, one of the UAE’s leading aviation and logistics firms. His multilingual abilities, in English, Tamil, Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Malayalam, Malay, and Telugu sets him apart in a field where communication across cultures is crucial.
Gibran assists clients, resolves disputes, and communicates with government authorities and international customers.
“It’s a people-oriented job, and I love that. No two days are the same. One moment, I’m helping a client from Saudi Arabia. The next, I’m resolving a logistics issue for someone in New York.”
One of the most memorable and stressful moments in his career involved a shipment worth over USD 4 million. A junior staff member mistakenly sent a valuable emerald and diamond jewellery consignment to Jaipur, India (JAI) instead of JFK Airport, New York. This almost cost a client a USD 30 million auction deal.
“The client was furious, and understandably so. I stepped in, calmed the situation, coordinated with our teams in India and the UAE, spoke to the auction house, and managed to have the consignment rerouted just in time. It was tense, but in the end, we saved the deal. That experience showed me the real power of teamwork, empathy, and quick decision-making.”
"It’s not just about resolving problems, but about creating trust, building relationships, and always striving to make someone’s day better," said Gibran while emphasising this is the ethos that guides him as he carves a niche for himself in the aviation and logistics sector in the UAE.
For Gibran, it’s not just about logistics, it’s about making the travel and shipment experience smooth, personal, and human.
“Many of our customers carry high-value items. My job is to ensure they travel worry-free, knowing their items are in safe hands. Some don’t speak English, but thanks to my multi-language skills, I can make it work.”
“I want them to remember me as the guy who made things easier.”
This commitment is what makes Emirates Group stand out. With subsidiaries like Emirates Transguard, Emirates Engineering, and Emirates Aviation, the company plays a central role in the UAE’s logistics ecosystem. It also sponsors various international sports clubs, solidifying its global presence.
Currently, Gibran plans to return to Malaysia in the next couple of years. “If I get a job opportunity there, I’d love to return to Malaysia. Malaysia is not just a place I studied, it’s a place that welcomed me, shaped me, and gave me lifelong memories.”
His message to current and future students of MSU is simple but powerful: “Be open to experiences. Learn from everyone. Speak kindly. Work hard. And never forget the people who helped you along the way.”
