In 2016, there were 750 million illiterate adults. Half the figure comprised citizens of South Asia and two thirds were women.

Quality education is the fourth agenda of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). Enhancing the learning experience for students from the Management and Science University (MSU) Graduate School of Management (GSM) at the MSU Learning Centre (MLC) in Kuala Lumpur Sentral was the MSU Global Leadership Programme (GLP).

Taking the full-time-weekend (FTW) students to Bangkok, Thailand early last March, the three-day ‘Thinking over the sea’ GLP aimed to facilitate better understanding of Global Strategic Management through exposure to international businesses. It included visits to various industries, namely the automotive components manufacturer Ingress Autoventures, the silver jewelry original equipment and original design manufacturer (OEM, ODM) Royi Sal Jewelry, and Thep Prasit Honey.

The students also visited Burapha University’s Institute of Marine Science, the Friends for All Children Orphanage, Ayutthaya Historical Park, and the Yan Nawa and Bang Lamung districts.

At the orphanage, the students donated 4.500 baht to the Friends for All Children Foundation and distributed goodie bags of colouring books and pencils to the orphans.

Noting the value of the international experience was GSM student Jaya Lakshmi Sunther Raj.

“In addition to the great satisfaction from our small contribution to the less fortunate, the shared learning experiences brought many meaningful moments,” remarked Jaya Lakshmi.
