Marking a successful seventh year of its longstanding tradition, the Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies (FBMP) organised the MSU Entrepreneurship (ETR) Week in August 2024.
ETR Week, an annual programme by FBMP, signifies a commitment to fostering a culture of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit among MSU students across faculties, jumpstart members, alumni, students from partner universities, industries, vendors, Asnaf entrepreneurs, and schools.
FBMP embarked on providing relevant and humane education avenues through segmented business clusters including management, entrepreneurship, economy, statistics, law, information technology, finance, and accounting.
ETR 7.0 was launched in a joint effort with PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Berhad, Toshiba, Jalen Sdn. Bhd., Agensi Anti Dadah Kebangsaan (AADK), Yayasan Perkasa Siswa, Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA), Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia (LHDN), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Allianz Malaysia, Zeneration Agency, and Adabi Consumer Industries Sdn. Bhd.
The involvement of these diverse industry partners provided comprehensive and systematic learning opportunities for the students to dive deeper into the plethora of aspects constituting entrepreneurship.
In addition, the engagement with SMK Kota Kemuning, SMK Kosas, SMK Hillcrest, Institute of Social Science & Business (Andi Sapada), Chandigarh Group of Colleges (Jhanjeri), University Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Makassar State University, Politeknik Ati Padang, Bina Nusantara University, Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang, MSU College: Sarawak, Sabah, Johor, Sentral, Seremban, and Kota Bahru was contributory both to participants and organiser in the Business Pitching Competition 2024.
The four-day event themed “Green Spark: Igniting Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Communities”, featured a string of enriching activities: MSU Entrepreneurship Booth, PNB Merdeka 118 Youth Merchandise Challenge, SDG Product Sustainable Innovation, Business Innovation Challenge, MSU Young Tycoon Competition, Race Against Drugs with AADK, Toshiba x MSU Marketing Plan Competition, Jalen x MSU Ultimate Selling Competition, Springboard Game, Alumni Sharing Session on Crypto, Career Talk by Allianz and Zeneration, symposium in collaboration with LHDN, Surge Connection, and Great Eastern, and Global Moguls Treasure Hunt.
Professor Tan Sri Dato' Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid presided over the closing ceremony, which served as the culmination of the gripping ETR week.
This year's theme, which is future-oriented and highly relevant to the values we practice at MSU, is well-timed. All the ideas and prototypes presented by our students, rooted in sustainability and reflecting your responsibility for the future, amaze me. Shift your entrepreneurial focus to the green transition. This allows you to succeed in your venture while also preserving our environment, which greatly influences the next generation. Take up this challenge to become distinguished entrepreneurs, said Professor Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid.
The prize-giving ceremony was held for the best participation from all the competitions, including the FBMP students clinching second prize for the International Islamic Finance Olympiad in the International Muamalat Interactive Game Challenge.
Dato’ Rosli Yusof, representing MSU Foundation (Yayasan MSU), received a contribution worth RM 1,200 from the funds collected during the FBMP Major Mentoring—Eco Spark Merdeka Fest, which took place on August 3.
Eco Spark Merdeka Fest focused on raising awareness and taking action by integrating Eco Spark Groove (Zumba), Eco Fun Walk (a 3-km brisk walk and rubbish collection), and Eco Spark Flea Market (a fundraising activity). Over one thousand FBMP students and staff members participated, including blended learners, micro-credentials, SMILE recipients from MSU College, and lecturers and students from Politeknik Bali.
Also joining the closing ceremony were Dato’ Rosli Yusof, Senior Vice President of Endowment & Communication; Professor Dr. Abdul Jalil Ghazali, Senior VP for Industry Linkages & Entrepreneurship; Dato’ Nasharuddin Shukor, Vice President for Business and Enterprise Development; and Associate Professor Nurul Asyikeen Abdul Jabar, Dean of the Faculty of Business Management & Professional Studies.
