Obesity and stunting are twin health crises concerning Malaysian citizens. With the National Plan of Action for Nutrition Malaysia III (NPANM III) nearing its end, collaborative strategies are called for to combat nutritional disorders.
The 39th Nutrition Society of Malaysia (NSM) Scientific Conference built around the theme “Strategic Alliance to Combat Malnutrition: Whole of Government, Whole of Society Approach,” took place at the Avante Hotel, Petaling Jaya. In the two-day conference spanning from July 30-31, a total of four students, five alumni, and three lecturers from Management and Science University (MSU) participated.
The Bachelor in Nutrition (Honours) or BNT alumna Puteri Iylia Asilah Shahril brought home the NSM Undergraduate Thesis Prize 2024 for her research on the “Comparison of Food Insecurity and the Risk of Eating Disorders by Relative Weight Change Status of Malaysian Youths Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic.”
Nurul Alieya Mohd Arif Leow, a final-year BNT student at the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS), received a consolation prize for the Poster Competition Award 2024 (for Undergraduates), emerging as the top 10 among 64 undergraduate participants at the conference. Her research, titled “Comparing the Effects of Various Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) Subgroups on Chondrocyte and Adipocyte Cell Cultures,” was supervised by Professor Dr. Kenji Kobata, Dr. Sachie Nakatani, and Dr. Ang Yeow Nyin.
