On May 8, the Chancellor Hall at Management and Science University (MSU) brimmed with novices primed to embark on their academic journey.
The MSU Oath-Taking Ceremony (OTC) in May 2025 welcomed students from both the fresh and progression categories, enrolled through intakes from November 2024 to May 2025.
Emphasising the University’s culture of excellence to the 1,154 students gathered in the Chancellor Hall was Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, the President and Founder of MSU.
“The best moment in my life was when I was a student like you. This transformative period will profoundly shape who you become in the future, whichever path you pursue, especially in terms of your leadership style, perspective, and network,” the President said.
To amplify MSU’s commitment to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and quoting the World Economic Forum, Professor Dr. Mohd Shukri encouraged freshmen to explore technological change, geoeconomic fragmentation, economic uncertainty, demographic shifts, and the green transition when considering their path to success, as these elements are expected to shape and transform global labour demand.
With 297 students, the largest enrollment is recorded at the Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies (FBMP), followed by 271 at the Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE), 195 at the School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS), 142 at the School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA), 124 at the International Medical School (IMS), 69 at the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS), and 56 at the School of Pharmacy (SPH).
Through this ceremony, MSU embraced 92 international students from 24 countries. They hail from Bangladesh, Botswana, Brunei, Burma, Chad, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Lebanon, Libya, the Maldives, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Sudan, Timor-Leste, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, and Zimbabwe.
Joining and commemorating the new MSUrians were Scholarship for Mobility and International Learning Experiences (SMILE) recipients from MSU Colleges in Sabah, Johor Bahru, Penang, Sarawak, and Kota Bharu.
This edition of the OTC also featured students from the Global Mobility Programme from Sungshin University in Korea, IAE EST Paris in France, CAMED Business School in Cambodia, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto, and Universitas A.R. Fachruddin Tangerang in Indonesia.
Leading the oath was Antonios Junior Antoniou, hailing from Botswana. He is currently pursuing the Bachelor in Hospitality and Tourism Management (Hons) programme at SHCA.
Delivering the vote of thanks was Joan Wee Phei Xuen, also enrolled in the Bachelor in Hospitality and Tourism Management (Hons) programme. The Kelantan-born national athlete faced significant obstacles early in her academic journey, but her life took a positive turn after joining MSU College Kota Bharu (KB).
She graduated with a Diploma in Culinary Arts with distinction, which earned her the prospect to further her tertiary education at MSU's main campus through the Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid Award and the Yayasan MSU scholarship.
“I always wanted to experience this campus. I had heard about the vibrant student life, the global exposure, and the sense of belonging here. Therefore, when the opportunity came through the award and scholarship, I grabbed it with both hands. I may be new to the campus, but I already feel the energy, the warmth, and the spirit of this place. Sports taught me discipline and resilience. But MSU? It taught me how to step into leadership,” Joan expressed.
Joan served as the President of the Student Representative Council at MSUC KB and graduated in May 2023 during MSUC’s 25th Graduation Ceremony. She has represented Malaysia on international arenas, including in Thailand, Australia, and Singapore, in lontar peluru (shot put) and lempar cakera (discus throw) competitions.
Moreover, 31 club and association presidents for the 2025/2026 term received their appointment certificates from Professor Dr. Mohd Shukri, marking the official beginning of their tenure.
OTC is not just a platform to pledge for integrity and uphold good conduct; it is also a space where talents are encouraged and courage is instilled. The crowd was treated to a myriad of vibrant performances by the new MSUrians, supported by the Performing Arts and Cultural Club (PACC) and Indian Cultural Association (ICA).
