In a world-class restaurant, quality control methods – computerized recipes, timers, and kitchen managers who rate presentation before the food is served – ensure consistency in cost, quality, and service. Imagine the parallel possibilities in healthcare. Electronic health records, for example, may improve healthcare provider effectiveness, consequently improving healthcare system efficiency. From the laboratory workstations of the Management and Science University (MSU) Information Technology and Innovation Centre (ITIC) comes the MSU Medical Centre (MSUMC) Healthcare Management System (HMS).

Developed by a dedicated internal development team with the latest state-of-the-art tools and software, HMS is designed to cater to the needs of both the healthcare provider and the healthcare-seeking public.

Healthcare forms a large, growing part of the economy. Getting things done to a standard and with minimal errors – errors that are more likely caused by cascading bits of misinformation rather than a single catastrophic event born of negligence – is profoundly important.

The comprehensive, integrated information system bridges organizational strategic goals with the nuts and bolts of implementation. HMS is capable of managing all aspects of hospital operation; from medical to administrative, to financial and corresponding processing of services.

The unveiling of HMS was officiated by MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid; with MSU Senior Vice-President for Research, Innovation, Technology and System Professor Dato’ Dr Md Gapar Md Johar in attendance.

Information Technology and Innovation Centre (ITIC) is one of the currently eight Centres of Excellence (CoEs) at Management and Science University (MSU).
