Management and Science University (MSU) co-organized the 8th Asia Pacific Pharmacy Education Network (APPEN) International Joint Symposium in 2019.

Hosted by Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), the APPEN symposium gathered academia, scientists, students, authority as well as industry in a platform exchanging teaching, learning, and research experiences relating to pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.

APPEN has come a long way since its inception, with the Halal Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics (HPC) conference integrated into the 2019 International Joint Symposium for the second year running.

APPEN had begun life as the Asia Pacific Pharmacy Education Workshop (APPEW), with the first workshop held at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2010. Other founding members besides USM and MSU are Josai University, Japan and Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia. Thailand’s Mahidol University and Universiti Brunei Darussalam were invited into the network this year.

The goal of the series of workshops had been to work together in shaping the future of pharmacy education and its graduates, as a catalyst to comprehensive improvements that advance the field of pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industry.

Synergizing best practice in pharmacy education and practice demands cross-border harmonizing, recognition, and education, which APPEN aims to address by setting precedents for exemplary standards that lead to a better future in the fields of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science.

Management and Science University (MSU) president, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, presented the Shukri Distinguished Keynote Lecture Award to the Head of the Pharmacy Division of Indonesia Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Health, Professor Dr Yahdiana Harahap.
