Challenges and obstacles can all be overcome with determination and passion in pursuit of dreams to succeed and be useful citizens of the world.

Muhammad Syamil Muhammad is a fourth-year student of MSU International Medical School (IMS) at the Bangalore campus. A member of the International Medical School Students Association (IMSA), he is also a member of the Student Representative Council. He shares his learning experiences away from home soil.

“Living so far from family and other support systems is very challenging to us here, but we learn to adapt and accommodate. The new environment, new culture, and new social norms present lessons of tolerance and understanding – crucial to handling various human personalities in this line of work, and a very important skill that can only be gained outside the classroom.”

And India, with its ongoing cultural and idealogical evolutions, provides just the right backdrop.

As a medical student of MSU IMS, the aspiring doctor is not just passing exams to obtain his MBBS degree at the end of five years. Medicine involves treating patients, which requires one to have, develop, or acquire the necessary skills, not least of all communication. Beyond classroom dynamics, the student develops charisma and confidence through community engagement.
