Aiza Shamimi Abd Rani and Awatif Nadzierah Abd Rani share more than the family name; they both started at MSU and both are now studying in Japan.

An MSU President’s scholar, Aiza Shamimi graduated MSU with a Bachelor in Accountancy (Honours). The thrice Dean’s lister had started out with a Foundation in Business, also at MSU. Fascinated by the workings of management, the Finance Executive at Affin Hwang Capital applied to the Monbukagakusho: MEXT initiative by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and won a full scholarship. She left her Kuala Lumpur job to pursue a two-year Master’s degree at Yamaguchi University’s Graduate School of Economics.

“I aced the interview session by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) and the Japanese Embassy in Malaysia at the Study in Japan Fair 2017 in Kuala Lumpur,” she beamed.

Joining Aiza Shamimi in Japan is her more scientifically inclined sibling who is pursuing a Bachelor of  Pharmacy (Honours) at MSU. This is Awatif Nadzierah’s second time in Japan at Josai University as she had been there for a semester on the MSU Global Mobility Programme (GMP). The special programme that allows a period of study at MSU’s over forty partner institutions worldwide had sent elder sister Aiza Shamimi to Coventry University in the United Kingdom, and herself to Josai after she had graduated MSU’s Foundation in Biological/Health Science.

Remarked the younger sister, “My first experience in Japan gave me a new perspective on studies abroad and added value to my learning; this time around, I look forward to more exposure on Japanese pharmaceutical technology.”

 

 

 

Aiza Shamimi, who is currently on various orientation programmes including cultural activities and taking lessons in Japanese three times a week, is close with her Sensei (lecturers) and friends in Japan.


 

 

 

“It’s interesting to note that my course mates at Yamaguchi University come from all over the world including Guatemala, China, Thailand, and Indonesia. The range of perspectives can only add more to my knowledge in management and finance. I’m positive that my learning experiences abroad are contributing to my professional development for my future career,” she ended.
