Alumnus credits successful international career in computer science to education at Management and Science University (MSU)

“As a Senior Database Engineer at a global e-commerce company, I manage a worldwide database. I also conduct analysis and feasibility studies on database migration,” says MSU alumnus Prabakar Manogaran.  

The Senior Database Engineer (Oracle) at Rakuten Inc, a leading company in Japan, propelled his career to the international stage from a junior similar position at Beans Group Sdn Bhd. He had started his database management career at Dell Malaysia in June 2012, and progressed to Senior Oracle Database Administrator at British Telecom in September 2015. Penang-born Prabakar traces his successful career in database management to a specialization in software engineering and a Bachelor in Computer Science with Honours from MSU.

“My MSU education built my character and equipped me well for the industry,” he recalled of his undergraduate years. “I participated in all the soft skills enrichment programmes and co-curricular activities to develop my leadership and communication skills. These now help me perform my duties well alongside people from various cultures and personal backgrounds.”

Thanking his dedicated lecturers for their part in his success, the member of MSU’s Class of 2011 also advises future members of MSU alumni to not be too choosy when just starting out. Whilst he feels that the MSU ecosystem supported him significantly, he also opines that one should maximize one’s ventures.
