SHAH ALAM HERITAGE WALK 2021: VIRTUAL EDITION

School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA) of Management and Science University (MSU) is well known for its continuous programs. Event-planning is not an easy task, hence why this faculty encourages its students to do so, in developing students’ creativity and critical thinking skills.

In January 2021, SHCA organized its annual event, the Heritage Walk as part of their Major Mentoring programme. Despite the pandemic, the students managed to successfully run the event by adapting with the new normal. This time around, it was run virtually!

A total of eighteen checkpoints were explored around Shah Alam City in this event. The event is the 3rd series of Heritage Walk organized by SHCA after KL Heritage Walk in 2018 and Royal Klang Town Heritage Walk in January last year.

This unique event was planned and organized by students who are completing Event Project and Event Management subjects with supports from the subject’s lecturer. Close to 1000 students from SHCA participated in this program together with other 49 Mentors, virtually using Google Meet platform. While for alumni series, around 50 alumni had participated. Collaborators facilitating the virtual walk are Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA) and Tourism Selangor.


Shah Alam Heritage Walk: Virtual Edition began on the 2nd January 2021 for MSU’s Alumni and on 4th of January 2021 for SHCA’s students. The objectives of this program are to strengthen the bonding between mentor, mentee and alumni, as well as to provide them with exposure and experience of heritage and attraction in Shah Alam City. Shah Alam Heritage Walk also aimed to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3 good health and well – being, (SGD) 4 for Quality Education, (SDG) 11 Sustainable Cities & Communities, and (SDG) 17 Partnerships for goals. This program was sponsored by a few companies namely Farm in City Kuala Lumpur, KL Tower Mini Zoo, Balqish Makmur Enterprise, Omar Ali Enterprise, Ain’s Cookies, DZA Music Entertainment, The Hijab Co., KL and Spritzer.


The closing ceremony of Shah Alam Heritage Walk Virtual Edition was held on 6th of January 2021 at the Performing Arts and theatre, MSU in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set by the government. A total number of 1000 attendees participated virtually in the closing ceremony. Another 100 participants attended the event physically. The closing ceremony was officiated by Yang Berbahagia Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, the president of MSU. VVIPs present are Yg Bhg Dato Haji Haris bin Kasim, Mayor of Shah Alam and Mr. Azrul Shah Bin Mohamad, the General Manager of Tourism Selangor.


Additionally, a total amount of RM 15,000 donation was handed over to MSU Foundation. The donation was handed by SHCA’s Dean, Mr. Azizul Bin Jamaludin to Dato' Rosli Yusof, Senior Vice President Endowment & Communication witnessed by Yang Berbahagia Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, Yg Bhg Dato Haji Haris bin Kasim, Ma and Mr. Azrul Shah Bin Mohamad.
