Slay It Safe

Diploma and Bachelor students of fashion from School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA) have conducted several fundraising activities to gain capital to fund their Final Fashion Show event, as part of their Fashion Show Management subject. The main objective of this program is to showcase the creation and craftsmanship by the fashion design students of Management and Science University (MSU).

However, due to the pandemic, the actual program of fashion show had to be arranged differently. Hence, the first virtual edition of fashion show was planned in exchange.

The designers have casted models among MSUrians from different faculties and selected only the best to be participated in the virtual fashion show. On the same casting day, Ms Shima Aris, a professional catwalk model, was present and shared with the students and models of some of her valuable experiences while working in the fashion industry.

Two weeks before the recording day of the fashion show, the models had a fitting day to finalize the design for the fashion show. The virtual fashion show was then held for two days with collaboration of Media and Strategic Communication, MSU (MSUtv). The students had to observe their social and physical distances during the production, backstage works and continue to do so until the final virtual event in December 2020.

The first MSU’s Virtual Fashion Show; “New Norm” Slay It Safe was held on 15th December 2020, showcased 30 garments from 23 designers’ collection of Bachelor in Fashion Design with Marketing and Diploma in Fashion Design students. The virtual fashion show had 2 editions of collections with 3 themes: “The Road Ahead”, “Tokyo Street Style” and “Bright Night.

The program was participated by MSUrians, MSU College Branches, MSU Offshore campus (Colombo & Jakarta), Partner Universities as well as the public.
