Success Comes Daringly

The MSUrians who are a part of the Student Career Development (SCD) have always been an active bunch. Hosting events, being socially outgoing, ensuring clubs are active, these are just the basics of being a part of SCD.

SCD member Emir Asyraaf Redza is one of the actively involved with the clubs and associations at MSU. The 25-year-old Diploma in Multimedia graduate from MSU is currently working with Kimyra Ventures Style as a Junior Graphic Designer.

“I would say I liked participating in sports tournaments and conducting events very much during my time at MSU. I learned various skills such as teamwork and management skills for an organization. I wouldn’t say I excelled in everything that I’ve done, but I never gave up on the challenges I’ve had to face”. The students of MSU would recognise Emir when going through their orientation phase as he was actively involved with facilitating the orientation. The experience for Emir helped him bring out the best in him, especially with his self-esteem and confidence in speaking english in front of a crowd. This later on really helped him with his future career.

Emir is an outgoing person. He likes to socialise with those who share ideas and aspires to do great things in life. He’s learnt a lot from his fellow colleagues and he’s eager to learn more to improve himself.

When Emir started designing, it was a mere hobby for side income and fun. He didn’t get much support from his closest friends or family members when he was looking to venture deeper into the business field. However, that didn’t change his plan.

“After doing some research and seeking advice from business owners, I started to design jerseys for my fellow MSUrians. It was a huge honour for me when the MSU Facilitators managed to sell some of my jerseys which I gained profit from. From there, I wanted to keep improving on my designs in the hopes that I can constantly design jerseys for MSU”

After a while, Emir decided to proceed with his business on his own, without having to depend on the clubs of MSU. Due to some that he had to deal with, he opted to find a new target audience outside of MSU. So he started his own business ‘Maglia Clothing ‘. “My very first customer outside of MSU was my mother. She started to see the efforts I’ve put in with my designing business so she asked me to design a jersey for her workplace. The orders coming in were very overwhelming and I was very happy with my end product as my mother really loved it.” he said.

Emir is a designer with a very particular taste. It took him quite a while to find a suitable outlet for his jersey printing as he wants the best quality for his jersey material. He’s main goal is to be a trusted brand to the public.“Luckily, my internship company was the best that I could ask for. I can really trust them and I am still working with them till this day.” he said.

Gaming and sports jerseys are Emir’s specialty. He has a lot of customers who are involved in the Esports realm. Designing for Esports teams had helped him expand his creativity as the designs are quite flexible.

Emir is a very customer friendly designer. He ensures that he gives a few drafts for his clients to choose from. “Different customers have different needs. I make sure that I give them a lot of options in order for me to fulfill their demands. . It is important to produce an eye catchy design because the jersey that the players wear during a tournament or competition, will represent their team or the institution itself. A bold design would grow such attention during that respective time.” he said.

To gain some inspiration, Emir would refer to well established brands such as Region Malaya, Kovra, Zush and Ombak. “I sometimes take a day to visit their stores to check out new designs or maybe even buy some jerseys as a collection. I don’t just focus on the designs when I’m at the stores, I also pay close attention to how the companies manage their business. I also observe their marketing strategies so I could implement them in my business as well.”

“I was taught not to limit my potential and try everything I could. Learning is a lifelong journey. I may not be 100% excellent in academics, but the knowledge and skills that I learned at MSU got me further beyond my capabilities. People shouldn’t say that joining events would be a waste of time and that you should only focus on academics. I believe that both of them have helped me get to where I am now.”
