All-rounder Arshela

Not everyone considers the future of education, especially at such a young age. But not for this Sarawak-born MSUrian, Norashela Binti Abdullah, who is presently pursuing Diploma in Education (Teaching of English as a Second Language) at MSU College Sarawak.

“I know that Sarawak has a shortage for teachers and therefore I feel that this is the right choice,” shared Arshela when asked about her programme of choice.

There is a saying “Never assume the obvious is true”. While most assume that a Dean’s List award recipient only spend their time studying, Arshela has a different story to tell.

She strongly believes that to become an educator, she must first excel in both academic and life. Being awarded the Dean’s List and the President’s List Award was the highlight of Arshela’s time at MSU thus far, but the most meaningful achievement in her life was winning the beauty pageant competition and was able to represent Sarawak in the national stage.

Arshela admits that she used to have low self-esteem and she felt that she was not able to communicate well. Her decision to join the beauty pageant has encouraged her to be comfortable in her own skin and taught her how to be her true self.

“I was able to change a lot of things in my life. Starting from my skill in communicating to being able to help people in need,” she shared. beauty pageant contest requires special talents on top of great appearance and personality, so we went ahead and ask about her ‘hidden’ talent. Turns out she has a big passion for singing and dancing.

“I spend my time dancing and singing. But, day by day I do feel that sometimes it leads me to be somebody out there. For me, I can expand my potential in this industry especially the entertainment industry.”

As a person who believes in hard work, Arshela would also like to remind everyone that taking a break is totally fine, but don’t ever give up. “Prioritize your health especially mentally. Without a good state of mental health, you will not be able to control everything rationally.”

While she thinks getting out of our comfort zone is one of the best ways to excel, she also believes that success is subjective as everyone has different studying method.

“Everyone has their own way to study. What works for me might not work for you. So, go on and discover your learning style!” Connect with Arshela on Instagram: @arshelaabdullah
