COVID-19 Updates

PRESIDENT’S ADVISORY CURRENT UPDATES ON COVID-19
Recently, there has been unexpected rise in the number of Covid-19 cases attributed from the Red Zone areas such as Sabah and Kedah as well as increasing number in Selangor. Hence, MSU is strengthening the SOPs and guidelines to ensure safe campus environment and without disruption in the learning experiences.

The university will continue its current teaching and learning arrangements into the 2020/2021 academic year. To ensure a safe environment for everyone, we will continue to follow all relevant public health guideline and SOPs on campus.

A. MOVEMENT AT ENTRANCE & EXIT OF CAMPUS
  1. Security on movements on campus will be of utmost importance.

  2. Students, staff, and visitors must use the designated entry points set by the Management.
      There will be 4 entrances:
      a) U Square (for all students/staff/visitors)
      b) Management Tower (for staff)
      c) The Residents (campus entrance via The Hub)
      d) Level 1 Chancellor Hall (Kitchen - limited access)

  3. All entering the campus through U-Square/ Concourse, must go through the dedicated checkpoints. Compulsory at the checkpoints are:
      a) Scanning of QR code for MySejahtera apps
      b) Temperature check (on the forehead as advised by MOH)

  4. Hand sanitisers are provided upon entry, as well as in common areas in campus.

  5. Everyone is advised to follow the SOP and instructions when visiting other premises on campus, depending on the requirements for some offices/departments such as labs, classrooms, and eateries.

  6. In cases if it rains, the entrances at U-Square/Concourse will still be open. However, few alternative paths through the Level 1 elevator (under the Chancellor Hall) will also be accessible.



B. HEALTH SAFETY ON CAMPUS

Compulsory measures on health safety include:

  1. Temperature checks
    Although checks are done upon entry into campus, frequenting outlets/ office areas/ faculties/ schools/ departments may be required. Please cooperate and be honest with your health conditions i.e. if you have a fever, you must not come to the campus (provide a medical certificate or MC when requested)

  2. Hand Sanitisers
    Although the sanitisers are provided at the designated entrances, you are encouraged to bring your own as well for your own self-usage. Please sanitise your hands or wash your hands. Observe personal hygiene.

  3. Facial masks
    The masks are COMPULSORY to be worn when you are in public areas. Avoid crowded areas.

  4. Physical distancing (PD)
    Always maintain 1-metre physical distancing (PD).
    • Always observe PD in classrooms/ lecture theaters etc.
    • Adhere to the paths designated to ensure crowding is minimized
    • Taking the lifts for example, will require queuing and minimum number of people at a time.
Actions may be taken against you for not adhering to the above SOPs

C. POLICIES & GUIDES

Below are specific reminders for everyone’s attention:

  1. Students
      1.1 The general measures in Section A & B above, are to be observed by ALL entering the MSU campus premises

      1.2 MSU will adhere to the SOP and directives of the authorities which include to have the specified number of students on campus at a time.

      1.3 Students must always have their Student ID for easy checking and access

      1.4 Students who are physically challenged, may request the assistance from the faculties to have access through the Management Tower.

  2. 2. Staff
      2.1 Only staff are allowed entrance via the Management Tower.

      2.2 Staff must also always have their Staff ID for easy identification and access to the Management Tower and classrooms

  3. 3. Visitors
      3.1 Visitors enter via the entrance at U-Square.

      3.2 Visitors coming for official tasks, may be facilitated by the staff/faculty members to gain access to the Management Tower

      3.3 Visitors can also organize to meet at the common areas at Level 2 and the U-Plaza.

D. ACADEMIC

Specific matters relating to academic, particularly for overall academic delivery and performance, will be detailed by the respective faculties/departments. In general, these are some measures to be taken by all:

  1. Academic calendar will remain as per scheduled. If the fluid nature of this pandemic situation changes and the governmental restrictions are made, MSU shall comply to these as well.

  2. MSU will utilize fully on the blended mode of teaching and learning via the following delivery modes:
      2.1 Blended – a combined mode of face-to-face and online
      2.2 Online study

  3. For students who are interstate or overseas, the university will provide online delivery or accommodate postponed face-to-face activities, wherever possible.

  4. Students are also encouraged to be in constant contact with the faculties/schools through the mentoring system to ensure accurate information is obtained.

  5. Reviewing of the teaching and learning curriculum is subjected by the MSU Senate approval, guided by the Malaysia’s Qualification Framework (MQF) to ensure the learning outcomes are met. This is also in adherence to the guide provided in MQA’s Advisory Note No 4/2020 dated 29th May 2020

  6. Complimenting the practical components including internship, work-based learning or industrial training will be the blended approach that will still ensure the needed learning experiences. There will be more industry-based projects, problem-based projects, topical studies and research or case studies.

  7. To ensure quality education is observed, continuous assessments and systematic monitoring will continue through internal quality assurance at the university.

  8. Addressing the spatial concerns on physical distancing, MSU also focuses on lower density in classrooms, public areas, and other facilities, where procedures and SOP are reviewed continuously.

E. OTHERS

  1. Amenities and outlets i.e The Hub, Starbucks, Subway, Gloria Jean, are also registered with MySejahtera so all are advised to adhere to the SOPs accordingly.
  2. Students at The Residence are also reminded to adhere to the set guidelines and SOPs.

The university plans to keep abreast throughout the year and may also shift to respond to changing circumstances or government requirements. It is hoped that we all have the patience and flexibility to adapt to these changes.
