Giving and Grateful at FHLS

MSU’s Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS) organised quite a handful of community service activities in recent weeks ranging from urban poor to environmental based efforts, so here are the highlights of what the team have done so far:

MSU Helping Hands 2020

MSU Helping Hands 2020 saw a team of happy helpers amassed a dozen boxes of donated old clothes as well as cash collected during various fundraising activities such as movie screenings. Close to RM2,000 in total were collected from all fundraising and donations. This event was even joined in by our entrepreneur alumni, Ms Nurain Syahirah Rosli who is the founder of Azam Merdu Sdn Bhd. The accumulated clothes and other donations were distributed to families in need at Kampung Sungai Pinang Bandar, Klang.

Bridge of Knowledge 2.0 & Kitchen Support (KitS)

The adorable smiling faces of children at Rumah Amal Al Firdaus were happily greeted by our FHLS students who volunteered for the Bridge of Knowledge 2.0 & Kitchen Support (KitS) programme, thanks to the donation of much needed food supplies and stationaries.

Costs for these programmes were collected through proceeds of another charity-based event known as Adopt A Cactus that were supported by everyone across the faculty. Though activities at Rumah Amal Al Firdaus were restricted to the outdoor compound of the orphanage to ensure everyone’s safety particularly the little ones during this pandemic situation, the cheer and joy of everyone involved were apparent.

Buy to Fund Community Service

An act of charity can come in many forms such as the event that was organized by FHLS recently, Buy to Fund with Yayasan Kebajikan dan Pendidikan Nur Kasih in Klang. A total of 200 packs of delicious Briyani with chicken kurma were prepared and sold to fellow MSUrians for their lunch. This is a type of sociopreneur that encourages many non-profit organisation’s efforts in self-funding to become more independently sustainable.
