UNIVERSITY GOVERNANCE – UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE (UMC)


At Management and Science University (MSU), Malaysia, the University Management Committee (UMC) serves as the highest decision-making body, ensuring strategic direction, effective governance, and continuous institutional excellence. Role of the UMC

The University Management Committee (UMC) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of MSU’s governance, from academic and administrative policies to institutional strategy and operational effectiveness. The committee plays a pivotal role in decision-making processes that align with MSU’s mission of producing well-rounded, competent, and socially responsible graduates.

Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Planning and Institutional Development
    • Formulating and implementing policies that shape MSU’s long-term growth and sustainability.
    • Ensuring alignment with national education policies and global best practices.
  2. Academic and Quality Assurance Oversight
    • Reviewing and approving academic programs to maintain relevance and innovation.
    • Overseeing accreditation processes, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement.
  3. Financial and Resource Management
    • Ensuring the efficient allocation of financial, human, and infrastructural resources.
    • Approving budgets and financial policies to support institutional priorities.
  4. Research, Innovation, and Industry Engagement
    • Encouraging research excellence, knowledge transfer, and collaborations with industry partners.
    • Supporting initiatives that contribute to MSU’s global reputation in research and innovation.
  5. Student Experience and Campus Life
    • Implementing policies that enhance student learning, well-being, and campus engagement.
    • Strengthening support systems, including career development, entrepreneurship, and student mobility programs.
  6. Sustainability and University Social Responsibility (USR)
    • Driving MSU’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
    • Overseeing sustainability initiatives that reinforce MSU’s role as a responsible institution.
