Sustainability comes in various forms and one of the critical aspects is the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). Every day, a multitude of individuals commit their expertise, time, and effort to their occupations, making valuable contributions to the progress of the nation. Promoting a workplace culture centred around prevention, as well as fostering a collective commitment to safety and health among all individuals at the workplace, should be a primary focus.

The Federation of Malaysian Manufactures (FMM) Selangor & Kuala Lumpur, in collaboration with Malaysia’s Social Security Organisation (SOSCO) and Management and Science University (MSU), organised the 4th installment of the Conference on Occupational Safety and Health 2023. The two-day conference aimed at addressing perplexing issues encountered by OSH professionals for the benefit of all participants and all industries in general.

The opening ceremony was attended by Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, President of MSU, Tuan Bahrudin Mamat, Director General of Department of Occupational Safety & Health, Selangor (DOSH), Mag Ng Foong Yuon, Chairman of FMM Selangor & Kuala Lumpur and FMM, Wong Soo Kan, Chairman of FMM Selangor & Kuala Lumpur Safety, Health and Environment Working Sub-Committee, and Prame Kumar Nair, Vice-Chairman, FMM Selangor & Kuala Lumpur Safety, Health and Environment Working Sub-Committee.

 

 

 

The conference encompassed myriad topics from experts and thought leaders, delivering insight stretching every aspect of occupation safety and health. The topics include:  

Occupational Disease by Dr. Wan Mohd Harith Wan Mustapa, the Head of Medical Assessor Unit at Prevention, Medical and Rehabilitation Division, SOSCO; Energy Emission (Electricity & Gas) by Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) by Tuan Bahrudin Mamat; Industry Code of Practise on Safe Working in Confined Space (ICOP) by Ramesh Zakir Shamsul, the Head Section on Hygiene and Industry at the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Selangor; Mental Health by Professor Dr Muhammad Najib Mohamad Alwi, the Consultant Psychiatrist of MSU Medical Centre; Way Forward in OSH Master Plan 2025 (OSHMP25) by Hasnul Rahimy Kandar, the Pemeriksa Kilang dan Jentera; Vision Zero by Norazman Abdul Ghani, Prevention Section of SOSCO; Public Warning System by LT. Kol. (PA) Ismail Mahedin, the Head of the Strategic Development Branch of the Policy Planning and Coordination Division, Malaysia Civil Defence, Occupational Noise Exposure Management and Hearing Conservation by Dr. Gogillan Sevaratnam, Occupational Physician, Metro Ambulatory Specialist Center, and Managing HSE Risk & Incidents via Artificial Intelligence by Go Chang Hua, HSE Excellence, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) of Petronas.

Highlighting the urgency of this conference, Professor Mohd Shukri, MSU's President, remarked,

Taking place at the Performing Arts Theatre (PAT), the conference was attended by over one hundred participants from the Industrial Safety, Health & Environment Officers, Human Resource & Training Managers, FMM Staff, and MSU undergraduates.
