Entreprenuership has been around for over 3,000 years, and throughout that time it has evolved and changed to meet the needs of society as a whole. That being said, the future of entrepreneurship is in the digital realm. The widespread spread of COVID-19 is largely responsible for the dramatic change in how businesses are run now. As a broader concept, it includes any company that uses digital tools to build new products or services, not just startups and software developers.

Since its founding, Management and Science University (MSU) has guided its students towards environments that foster innovation and entrepreneurship.

The sixth edition of Entrepreneurship Week, themed 'Reinventing and Sustaining Malaysia's Digital Entrepreneurship Innovation Ecosystem', took place from the seventh to the eleventh of August. MSU Entrepreneurship 2023 is an annual signature initiative designed to foster an entrepreneurial mindset among MSU students.

Taking place in Chancellor Hall on MSU's main campus in Shah Alam, the launch of MSU Entrepreneurship Week 6.0 2023 was a shining example of the university's commitment to fostering an exceptional environment for startups. MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato' Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, officiated the event.

“MSU has recently accomplished a number of firsts, including becoming the first university to earn an EMNA E-STAR from the Entrepreneurial Mindset Network. MSU's entrepreneurial culture and benchmarking have been praised internationally for their impact on the corporate, public, and non-profit sectors.

“Instilling an entrepreneurial spirit in our youth will have far-reaching effects, from creating successful business owners to aiding in the growth of our country. Conquering the digital economy, as it is the future contributor for entrepreneurial ventures, adapting to the new currency, the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), and translating all of its seventeen goals into good business modalities, and instilling the right entrepreneurial mindset, such as focusing on the destructive components, are all instrumental actions one ought to undertake.”

Following the speech was gimmick led by Danial Anaqi Adam Sham, from Bachelor of Law and Commerce (Hons), who had recently represented MSU in the CEO Challenge Competition, organized by the Axiata University Leadership Development Programme 2023. He won second place for innovative idea on Early Cancer Detection using Nano Chip Technology.

It has been both thrilling and exciting week for MSU students, especially those in the Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies, with events ranging from competitions to major mentoring to business pitching to expos of entrepreneurial booths to treasure hunts and trading challenges. Nevertheless, students from other faculties have also joined in, going above and beyond in their pursuit of an expanded entrepreneurial attitude.

Danish Adham Nuqman Soon from the Diploma in Culinary Arts of the School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA), Muhammad Azzaam Mohd Elias from the Bachelor in Games Design and Animation (Hons) of the Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE), and Ania Farhana Muhammad Syahnon from the Bachelor in International Business (Hons) of the Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies (FBMP) won first, second, and third place, respectively, on the MSU X Jalen Star Chef Competition.

Business Pitching Competition participants and winners include Sekolah Bina Insan, SMK Saujana Utama, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Jakarta Global University, and MSU College Kuala Terengganu.

Having common goals and being able to communicate them effectively are essential to the success of any collaborative effort. MSU has been working with almost two thousand industry partners and companies, therefore the addition of Jalen Sdn Bhd as a strategic partner was well appreciated. MSU and Jalen’s notable previous collaborations were when the latter sponsored for Ihya Ramadan 2023: FBMP Hope Box, contributed Industry Award for MSU’s 31st Convocation Ceremony and MSU Entrepreneurship Open Day 2023.

Promoting and facilitating research and training programmes, providing MSU students opportunities for internships and job placement, particularly for the Diploma in Retail Management and Bachelor in Retail Management (Hons), Bachelor in International Business, and Bachelor in Marketing Psychology (Hons) programmes, encouraging expertise exchange and executive development programmes for staff and students, taking part in the MSU Convocation by giving out industry awards to a select group of the University’s top graduates, and participating in industrial talks and SDG-oriented campaigns, are just a few of the roles that MSU and Jalen will be engaged in to bring the strategic collaboration to excellence.

Puan Zariah Abd Jalil, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jalen Sdn Bhd, exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The competitions, industrial talks, and forum were accomplished with the collaboration of SMK Saujana Utama, Sekolah Bina Insan, MSU Group of Colleges, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Jakarta Global University, Andi Sapada Institute, Employees Provident Fun (EPF), Jalen Sdn Bhd, Adabi Consumer Industries Sdn Bhd, Dibta Group Sdn Bhd, Maybank & MDEC, Chocodap’s, Physiomobile, AG Venture Group Sdn Bhd, Tea Public Sdn Bhd, Pusat Zakat Selangor, and Allianz.
