Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) Malaysia, the most well-established and largest medical student association in Malaysia, has a rich history of over three decades of exceptional service and contributions to society. One of their pivotal initiatives, the Medical Intervarsity Games (MiVG), is an annual intervarsity sports competition that was established in 2009. Its central goal is to encourage a healthy lifestyle among medical students while also facilitating and nurturing intervarsity relationships among various medical schools in Malaysia.

Following a significant pause brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has triumphantly returned, providing a wide range of sports played in real-world and virtual environments. Interestingly, the International Medical School (IMS) has joined this athletic event with great enthusiasm, promising to maintain the esteemed status of Management and Science University (MSU) across Malaysia.

MiVG serves as a platform to promote physical fitness and good sportsmanship among future medical professionals. AMSA Malaysia’s broader aim is to instill a strong sense of camaraderie among aspiring doctors, creating an environment conducive to improved healthcare practices in the future. This initiative is designed to cultivate healthcare practitioners who excel not only in their intellectual capabilities but also in their personal attributes, contributing to the development of wholesome healthcare professionals.

Highlighting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) 3, which focuses on Good Health and Well-Being, and 17, concerning Partnerships for the Goals, this flagship event aims to delve deeply into the realm of fostering an environment conducive to enhancing healthcare practices as well as nurturing the intellectual and personal growth of medical professionals. Additionally, it seeks to foster a sense of community among incoming medical students and enhance future doctors’ commitment to sportsmanship.

The flagship event was officiated by MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid. He was joined by Professor Dr. Mohamad Khairuddin Abdul Wahab, the Dean, and Mohd Hairulnizam Ibrahim, the Deputy Dean of Student Affairs at IMS.

On the 7th and 8th of October, a total of eighty-two students took part in a diverse range of competitions. These competitions encompassed a badminton tournament (8 students) and a futsal match (14 students) at Uptown Sports BangI, a basketball tournament (8 students) at SJKG Kwong Hong in Sungai Besi, an aerodance competition (10 students) at the Multipurpose Hall in UiTM Shah Alam, a frisbee (14 students), a table tennis competition (10 students) and track events (14 students) at UPM Serdang Sports Centre, a netball tournament (10 students) at UiTM Shah Alam Sports Centre, and a swimming competition (8 students) at UiTM Shah Alam Swimming Complex.
