Serving a dynamic platform to showcase a multitude of engaging activities, including exhibitions, competitions, cutting-edge research, and projects aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) is the MSU Health Science Week, an annual flagship event organised by the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS).

Officiating and addressing the audience was MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid.

“We assume the responsibility of inspiring the younger generation to delve into STEM programmes. Innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking thrive with STEM as their foundation. Recognising STEM as a practical career path should be firmly rooted. Overcoming the perception of STEM being challenging is one of the hurdles to address. It’s worth noting that healthcare remains the most rapidly expanding industry in Malaysia, even in a post-COVID world. STEM graduates also have the potential to become job creators and contribute to resource sustainability. The possibilities within the realm of the green economy are extensive. I encourage exploration for the betterment of our world”.

Also present in the launching ceremony were Professor Dr. Norhisham Mohamad, Vice President of Academic; Professor Dr. Indang Ariati Arffin, Vice President for Research & International Affairs; Associate Professor Dr. Sairah Abd Karim, Dean, FHLS; Professor Dr. Mohammad Khairuddin Abdul Wahab, Dean, International Medical School (IMS); Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Fadli Mohd Asmani, Dean, School of Pharmacy (SPH); Associate Professor Dr. Norshafarina Shari, Dean, School of Graduate Studies (SGS) and Halijah Hassan, Director of Students and Career Development.

During the occasion, a major announcement was made addressing the rebranding of one of the faculty's most prominent SDG initiatives, formerly known as "E-waste." This SDG-aligned programme will now be known as "Recycletronic Squad" with the appealing slogan "Upgrade the World, Recycle our Tech."

The Recycletronic Boxes will be strategically placed around the MSU campus in the near future. This initiative seeks to involve all members of the MSU community in the journey towards a better future through the responsible recycling of electronic devices.

Among the programmes organised in conjunction with the MSU Health Science Week 2023 were the Young Warrior Challenge; the Explore-Race Lab Tour – Unfolding the Case: The Shadows of Knowledge; Health Science Career Talks: Meet Our Experts in Health Science @ MSU; Drawing Competition in conjunction with World Heart Day; Congress of Optometry and Vision Research (COVR) 2023; Soft Launch of the 1st International Conference on Cardiovascular and Quality of Life (iConCiq) 2024; Installation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED); and many more.

Among the industries involved during the MSU Health Science Week were Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA), National Kidney Foundation (NKF), WIPRO UNZA Malaysia, and Malaysian Rubber Council.
