The past three years forced a new set of normalcy when an unseen enemy abruptly took over the entire global system into its shackles. Although people were warned of the potential inconveniences awaiting to befell, only the unimaginable occurrences transpired, leaving everyone and everything in the world topsy-turvy. Just like any other industry, the education sector saw a magnificent shift; bedrooms and living rooms took over the places of the usual four walls of classrooms. It was both a boon and a bane for educators and students alike. As an educational institute keeping up with the calibre of providing a balanced, holistic, and well-rounded educational experience, Management and Science University (MSU) has been catering to every need of the hour. The incoming class of September 2023 had a full on-campus orientation, a return to normalcy we had to forgo at the cost of our safety almost three years prior.

Categorised as one of the largest intakes of the year, the September 2023 cohort recorded a total of one thousand and eighty-three students on the registration day held at the Chancellor Hall of MSU. Contributing to one-fifth of the total number are the international students, making up one hundred and eighty-two from twenty-nine countries such as Indonesia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, the Czech Republic, the Maldives, Pakistan, Sudan, Cambodia, Myanmar, Palestine, the Philippines, Brunei, China, Egypt, Fiji, France, Ghana, India, Iraq, Japan, Oman, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.

The weeklong orientation programme concluded on September 8 with the New MSUrians Engagement Day, hosted by Students & Career Development (SCD). The ceremony was officiated by MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid. Participants also included the senior management team and faculty members.

Designed to promote the third Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of the United Nations, the event featured a wide variety of games and activities with the overarching purpose of empowering youngsters to be actively involved in the constant pursuit of learning. Considered to be among the most important soft skills, such activities served as excellent catalysts for developing and strengthening the students’ capacities for teamwork, communication, and critical thinking.

U-Square, U-Concourse, and U-Plaza—three of the MSU’s most popular areas—were bustling with eager first-years to get involved and make use of the various resources available.

Among the activities carried out were Dodgeball Fight; 3 on 3 Futsal Blind Version; Congkak; Dart Game: Just Throw It; Tenpin Bottles; Chapteh: Kicking the Feathers; Supershot Carrom; FIFA; and a talk on the title ‘Adjusting to University Life’.

One should make the most of their time and opportunities during their university experience. SCD offers a plethora of opportunities for undergraduates to compete, establish a sense of community, and find room for growth and self-discovery, all of which contribute to a lively and inclusive campus culture. Booth Exhibition and Club & Association Membership Drive & Showcase provided new MSUrians with a wide variety of alternatives to select from, with over thirty clubs and associations represented. Representatives from each club and association engaged in the campaign showcase by staging performances as well as doing interactive sessions that highlighted the work that they do.
