The Giving and Grateful (2G) culture is an integral component of the myriad ecosystems comprehensively entrenched in the missions the Management and Science University (MSU) has undertaken for almost four decades since its establishment. By prioritising shared objectives, the University actively seeks out, and more substantially generates any opportunities for the members of the community to band together and step up to the plate to assist society in need.

Through the collective effort of the English Language Chapter (ELC), Public Relations (PR) Club, Psychology and Counselling Club, and Early Childhood Education Club of the School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS), the SESS Charity Dinner 2023: Night of Nostalgia unfolded opulently at the Chancellor Hall of MSU.

Embodying elegance, camaraderie, and philanthropy, the night was resorted as an avenue for networking and social interaction among the existing student body, alumni, and staff; offering captivating performances and entertainment; and acknowledging the SESS community. Subsequently, the charitable night victoriously raised funds for the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) and Yayasan MSU as part of its benevolent missions.

Founded in 1986, NASOM, a non-profit and non-governmental welfare organisation, is determined to champion the autism cause by upholding rights and paving the path for a wellspring of opportunities and support services.

Yayasan MSU, on the other hand, is the University’s foundation that engages with the community and inculcates the culture of endowment through affiliation with diverse stakeholders for the creation of an improved future. The foundation was established with a mission to provide compelling and transformative educational opportunities with an aim at elevating economics and social well-being, ensuring that the talented but disadvantaged are not thwarted from achieving their dreams.

Addressing the Night of Nostalgia was MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid.

“Autism remains to be inadequately addressed and grave concern that afflicts our nation. I am pleased that the SESSians have gone with NASOM and Yayasan MSU as their contribution avenues. The passion that you have put forward in advocating for this goal is praiseworthy. We aspire to streamline your learning experience by incorporating a component of such into it. Consistently, we strive to inculcate in our students the principles of community engagement, volunteerism, and soft skills. Through empathy and integrity, one can enhance their competitiveness.”

“I am extending my profound appreciation and gratitude to each and every one of you for engaging in this evening's gathering; with your support, we can all work towards transforming lives and enriching the future."

Also gracing the philanthropic venture were MSU’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Puan Sri Dato Dr. Junainah Abd. Hamid; Senior Vice President for Endowment & Communication, Dato’ Rosli Yusof; President of the NASOM, Dato Megat Ahmad Shahrani Megat Sharuddin; and Vice President of Academic and Dean of the School of Education & Social Sciences, Professor Datin Dr. Norhisham Mohamad.

The evening’s generous contributors were treated to a string of exquisite performances. Grooving to September by Earth, Wind, and Fire, Beat It by Michael Jackson, Baby One More Time by Britney Spears, and Single Ladies by Beyonce were the Modern Team dancers of the Performing Arts and Cultural Club (PACC).
