Weight-teasing in adolescents predisposes adverse eating and weight-related outcomes years on. Management and Science University (MSU) through its School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS) organized the talk ‘The Beauty Within’ in conjunction with ‘Embracing Differences: A Self-Love Campaign’.
Weight-related stress actually leads to binge eating. It also reduces physical activity and delays essential health screenings. Highlighting the negative effects of body shaming, the talk promoted respecting differences and empathizing with victims.
Guest speakers to ‘The Beauty Within’ comprised Malaysian Mental Health Association counsellor Nurhijjah Mat Zin, Counselling and Guidance programme manager and lecturer Dr Ahmad Mustaqim Yusoff, and model and social media influencer Nia Atasha.
