Question: When do you need an accountant? Answer: Every step of the way when you are running a business. President’s Gold Award recipient and recent graduate of Diploma in Accounting from MSU College Kota Bharu 'Aina Yusrina Abdullah elaborates.

“Business accounting quickly becomes complex if you do it yourself but are not trained to do so. Accountants can help you understand your business’s up-to-the-minute financial situation by measuring its key metrics and monitoring its pulse. They can also help you track important things such as cash flow, and manage your payroll.

“And when it is time to file the tax returns, not only can a good accountant help keep a business up-to-date with the latest laws, she or he will also prepare its annual statement of accounts. When you are running your own business, dealing with government paperwork can be daunting. You will need expert help to complete and file all the required documents – legal as well as compliance.”

Professing enjoyment of number crunching, 'Aina was sixteen when she realized that accountancy could be her career path of choice.

“I would love to be a professional accountant as well as run a business myself in future. Knowledge of accounting and statistics is vital for those pursuing careers in not only business but also law and the nonprofit world. Studying accounting is my way of preparing for it.”

Choosing MSU was easy in the footsteps of four out of her nine siblings. The eighth child in a row of ten also chose to stay put in her Kelantan hometown. Having the option of living with her family meant that she had one thing fewer to worry about as she embarked on pursuing higher education. She sailed through Diploma in Accounting at the MSU College School of Hospitality, Education and Business, made the President’s List every semester, and now, with her President’s Gold Award scholarship from MSU Foundation Yayasan MSU (YMSU), is progressing to Bachelor in Accountancy (Hons) at Management and Science University (MSU) Learning Centre.

“Passion for the subject makes it fun to learn. Making sure I understood every lesson, giving it my fullest concentration, leaning on my lecturers and respecting them for the knowledge they impart, carried me through to one successful conclusion.”
