We have collectively embraced technology as a way of life. It is hard to imagine going through our days without the Internet and of course, all of the applications on our smartphones. Being tech-savvy is not just a tool for survival in today’s evolving digital landscape, for some, it becomes a lifelong career. Noor Ariff Noor Adnan followed his love for creativity and cutting-edge innovation to pursue a career in multimedia and technology. His company, Rocket Web Sdn Bhd provides services in mobile applications and web portal development. The tech entrepreneur is a 2004 graduate of MSU majoring in multimedia.
“Technology lets me innovate, solve problems, and create impactful experiences. Rocket Web remains steadfast to these goals with every new mobile application and website that we develop. We started 10 years ago in 2014 as a response to the growing demands for mobile applications. Back then it was still so green, but I saw a lot of potentials that have yet to be explored. As we can see today, mobile applications are everywhere and their usage has sky-rocketed. We have been blessed with opportunities and trust given to us in developing mobile applications for numerous big corporations and the government sectors. Over the years, we have worked with more than 30 government agencies in developing their systems and applications,” Ariff said.
Rocket Web has a new project underway with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) to create a web portal and mobile application for digital education purposes. It is one of the most major and challenging projects that Ariff and his team has ever undertaken specifically for its heavy reliance on AI technology. The application, Smart Quran aims to make the sacred scripture of Islam more accessible as an educational reference and promote a deeper understanding of its contents. Ariff hopes that his collaboration with JAKIM on the application could ultimately contribute to a more informed and connected society.
“Prior to this project, we were tasked to manage the server for Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK). It was definitely a tough job since that single server was used by all of the lecturers and students for mobile e-learning. We had to figure out a way to make sure the entire learning process could take place smoothly without any interruption. After several research and development (RnD) procedures, we devised a solution called as “hybrid” server. We then created a product that solved all server-related issues and can be used effectively by the entire university,” he added.
Ariff always looks back at his early days at MSU as his formative years, trying to learn and pick up as much knowledge as possible from experienced lecturers. Everything that he picked up from the years that he spent studying at MSU has helped him to pursue his career in the multimedia industry. Ariff treasures the connections he had forged with all of his lecturers. For him, the unbreakable bond between students and lecturers at MSU is a unique experience that is second to none. At MSU, students are welcomed to directly approach their lecturers to communicate and clarify their curiosities.
“We were close to our lecturers. It made it easier for us to consult them or clear up any confusion that we had about what we learned in class. Learning takes place beyond the lectures. At MSU, each of us was designated with a mentor. These interactions that we had with our lecturers allowed us to practise our communication skills too. We learned how to interact with others professionally in a proper manner. This is something that I still carry with me today especially when dealing with the clients and VIPs daily as the head of the company,” Ariff reminisced.
Ariff is thankful for all the hands-on lessons that he learned at MSU. It provides him with a sense of awareness of what to anticipate in his career as a tech developer. He finds it very helpful as he embarks on a journey as an entrepreneur too. Knowledge is everything for Ariff. Knowledge has moulded him into the successful person that he is today and he refuses to stop learning.
“We have to continue learning, especially in the field of technology that keeps progressing rapidly with new inventions and development. We have to keep up or else we will be left behind and miss out on all the great opportunities,” Ariff left his endearing hope for passionate individuals to follow.
