Celebrations bring people together in times of joy. It connects the network between our soul and mind, creating a euphoric leap that sends impulses of calmness and gratitude to our brain that help us feel the excitement. Celebrations come in many forms—be they small or big—and they help us appreciate life better and see things in the bigger picture. We must celebrate every small thing in life. Counting our blessings further deepens our understanding of life and grounds us in humility. Celebrating people, connections, beginnings, opportunities, and ourselves makes everyday moments a little more special and boosts our positive attitude towards life as a whole.

Resonating with that, Mother’s Day, one of the most popular days celebrated across the globe, honours mothers and the perpetual dedication, commitment, and sacrifices they make for the ‘man’kind.  Children see mothers as a hero without a cape, more than just a provider of the house. Mothers do not just fend for the needs of their kids but nourish them with kindness, discipline, and generosity. A mother’s investment in a child’s mental, physical, and spiritual growth creates a balanced, well-rounded, and holistic person in the future. Her upbringing goes to great lengths to make a rising generation of inspiring and successful leaders.

A mother deserves to be celebrated and honoured every day of her life, not just on Mother’s Day. However, as a student, we may face financial challenges to give her the day of her lifetime. Keeping the zen of "the thought that matters", let us see some practical ways of having an affordable Mother’s Day this year.

Firstly, the importance of celebrating our mothers needs to be understood. The goal should be to make them feel relaxed and rejuvenated at the same time. The easy way of doing this is by applying a homemade face mask for your mom, and the ingredients for that are in the kitchen in your house. You would need a teaspoon of turmeric, a tablespoon of fresh yoghurt, and two slices of freshly cut cucumber. Mix the yoghurt and turmeric in a bowl until an even paste consistency is achieved. Apply that to the face for about half an hour, then wash cleanly with cold water. So, what is the job of the cucumber? Keep a slice over each eye while resting with the paste on your face. Vitamin C in turmeric promotes collagen synthesis and prevents UV rays from further damaging skin cells. This is an easy yet great mask that will benefit your skin while keeping you rejuvenated.

Secondly, one of the simplest and most interesting ideas is to make a printed coupon book. You will just need a few papers, colour pencils, and a lot of creativity. This is inexpensive and easy to make. Win, win! Draw three lines on a piece of paper, making it look as if it were divided into three sections or boxes. Write out things like taking the trash out, washing the porch, doing the laundry, cleaning the kitchen, washing the dishes, and many other chores your mom does daily on these three ‘sections’ of the paper. Write one chore in each box. Repeat this on as many papers as you need. Decorate the fringes of the paper with colour pencils—you may draw or just colour randomly. Once done, hole punch and tie the sheets together with a string or ribbon to make it look as if it is a coupon booklet. Pass your mom this customised coupon booklet at the start of the day on Mother’s Day. Let her choose whatever she wants for you to do in her place throughout the day. She can use this time to relax and catch up on the things she has not been able to do otherwise.

Lastly, the most thoughtful idea This is no short of an idea that would show your mom how much you appreciate her. Give her a thoughtful, handmade card. Make a card with pictures of you and your mom that resemble the memories that are very important and sentimental to you both, and place them in the card. Write sweet wishes, or better yet, express through words what the picture means to you and her in between the pictures. If words are not your strong suit, write a bulleted list of everything you love and appreciate about her.

Mothers are the reason for our existence, and they deserve all our love, respect, and attention. Depending on what they like, there are many ways to celebrate this special day. Use your creativity and give it a pensive thought in everything and anything you plan for her this Mother’s Day. Moms deserve the best. And remember, no gift or effort can equal our mothers’ sacrifices for our wellbeing. But whatever you do for her this Mother’s Day, do it with authenticity and sincerity. All she ever asks from you is your time and love. Give her that today and see her eyes well up in tears of joy. May the wishes, prayers, and blessings of our mothers shadow us in all that we are and do in this lifetime. Happy Mother’s Day!
