The beauty of music breezes across the cultures, traditions, and faiths. Its magnetic pull captivates everyone. Change is innate in the human race. We change, our desires change and so does music. Even though, the type of music we listen to might change over time, one thing is for sure: the joy music brings to our soul, regardless of the genre, remains the same, against the test of time. Music and humans are inseparable. Our relationship with music is an indisputable journey of a lifetime from cradle to grave. Music does not discriminate. It goes beyond colour and creed.

The need to listen to music varies from one individual to another. Some listen to songs according to their mood, but on the other hand, some do to change their moods. The reason for listening to songs may vary. The bond one has with music is enthralling. Some pay attention the composition or the musical arrangement while listening to songs; some listen to the rhythm; some pay attention to the lyrics; some listen to songs depending on the composer especially if they are their favourite composer or singer. Whatever the ways to approaching music may be, the instant yet eternal connection one has with music goes beyond words. From the time human civilisation was birthed in caves or by the banks of the seas to skyscrapers now, music has continued engulfing us in its unspeakable euphoria. This is a relationship knitted even before the umbilical cords are formed. Our first and best friend is music. The one who we can count on is music. The world may fall, but we will still stand beneath the fortress of music taking refuge in its comfort. Music is life. Music is soul. One who recognises this, recognises his birth right.

Their musical nuggets

In the realm of harmonies, where melodies reside,

Lies the magic of music, a wondrous tide.

It dances on notes, like whispers in the air,

A symphony of emotions, beyond compare.

With every beat, a rhythm takes flight,

Guiding our souls through the darkest night.

It sings of love, tender and pure,

A melody that lingers, forever to endure.

Music speaks the language of the heart,

Uniting us all, no matter how far apart.

In its cadence, we find solace and release,

A symphony of healing, granting us peace.

From symphonies grand to a simple tune,

Music paints the world in shades of the moon.

It weaves stories, capturing moments untold,

Transforming emotions into melodies bold.

Through the strings of a guitar or the keys of a piano,

Music resonates, embracing us in its glow.

It stirs the depths of our being, setting us free,

A timeless masterpiece, for all to see.

So let us immerse ourselves in its ethereal embrace,

As music sweeps us away to a sacred space.

In its enchanting chorus, we find a refuge true,

For in the realm of music, dreams come alive anew.

Let the music play, with its symphony of grace,

Guiding us on a journey to an eternal embrace.

For in this world of melodies, we find our soul's key,

And discover the beauty of life's sweet harmony.

We asked a few students on what music to them is and what is their one go-to song to lift their moods. Below is the compilation of their responses:

Batrisyia Delilah binti Syamsul Badrin | Bachelor in Psychology

The beauty of music is uniquely indescribable. It is utterly interesting that the vibration of music evokes profound emotions, which ultimately lead to physical reactions such as crying happy tears and getting goosebumps. As someone who is truly passionate about music, I value and cherish it like my own life, as it is in my nature to be surrounded by the art of music. Music is life. I have tremendous favourite songs, but if I were to pick, my go-to song to uplift my mood would be "Down" by Jay Sean and Lil Wayne.

Irdina Darwisyah binti Rahmad | BTESL

From my perspective, music serves as a form of self-expression, a source of comfort, a means of relaxation, and a way to connect with others. It has the power to evoke emotions, uplift moods, and even inspire creativity. My go-to song is Fix You by Coldplay. It has become an anthem of hope and comfort for many people, resonating with its universal message of healing and transformation. Its uplifting melody and lyrics serve as a reminder that no matter how difficult life may be, there is always the possibility of finding strength, solace, and redemption.

Nur Ain Safiah binti Zulmajdi | DTESL

For me, music is a powerful form of expression that holds different meanings for different people. One of my go-to songs when I have a bad day is Glassy by Jo Yuri. The song is about always moving forward and has a touch of romanticism.

Joel Kulandai Veloo | Bachelor in Law and Commerce

Music is so impactful to me because it uses someone artistic to express my full emotion. When talking about music, it’s all about perspective. Apart from that, music can make you feel a certain way. Music can change my mood. Music can even change my life. Someday, just wake up until 4 a.m. and ponder about this weird and phenomenal phenomenon because music is unexplainable and has an overwhelming feeling that surrounds it. My go-to song to uplift my mood is "Love You Like a Love" by Selena Gomez, where the specific lyrics are "No one compares you stand alone, to every record I own, music to my heart, that’s what you’re a song that goes on and on."

Nor Nabilah binti Mahyuddin | Diploma in Medical Science

Music is a combination of a simple tone, which will produce such a magnificent sound in nature that can easily touch our hearts. The lyrics on it express the variety of stories of man's life, which sometimes we can feel as our own story. Living with music can make us feel what we want to feel as friends, both in the depths of loneliness and silence and in the joyful atmosphere of wonderful people.

Musical busks bask campus

In celebration of music, International Music Arts and Culture Convention (IMACC) was held at Management and Science University (MSU) on the 23rd and 24th of May 2023. The celebration that stretched for two days had consecutive events and exhibitions that took the breath of the audience away. The events showcased the quintessential exquisiteness of arts, culture, and music. Malaysia’s archaic culture and tradition that have stood against the test of time were intertwined in some of the urban showcases on the Shah Alam campus.

MSU was bustling with excitement as the air filled with the harmonious melodies and vibrant colors of a grand music and culture festival. It was a celebration that brought together music enthusiasts, cultural enthusiasts, and curious souls from all walks of life.

The heart of the festival was the magnificent Museum of Music, a sprawling exhibition showcasing the rich history and diverse heritage of musical traditions from Malaysia. From ancient instruments that echoed the tales of forgotten civilizations to modern-day marvels that pushed the boundaries of sound, the museum transported visitors on a captivating journey through time and culture.

The IMACC Conference: 16th SHCA Research Colloquium saw 100 participants in one hall. Scholars, researchers, and artists gathered to discuss and exchange ideas, delving into the depths of different topics such as tourism, hospitality, event, culinary arts and gastronomy, leisure and recreation, fashion design, music, and beauty management. The atmosphere crackled with intellectual energy as minds collided and new perspectives bloomed.

Meanwhile, a mouthwatering aroma wafted through the festival grounds, leading visitors to a lively cooking demonstration. “Let’s Chetty-Gether by Wenila Nadarajan” and “Nyonya-licious by Debbie Teoh” showcased their skills, blending flavors and techniques to create tantalizing dishes that reflected the fusion of cultures present at the festival. As the audience indulged in the culinary delights, they discovered that food could be an incredible medium for cultural exchange and understanding.

The IMACC Symposium featured the archaic artistic facet of Malaysian music and culture: Wayang Kulit: A Dance of Light and Shadows. The symposium invited insightful discussions and mesmerizing performances by renowned musicians and scholars. From stirring classical compositions to energetic folk tunes, the stage came alive with the magic of Wayang Kulit. The symposium became a melting pot of cultures, where diverse voices harmonized and bridges were built through the universal language of melodies.

Beyond the confines of the university, the festival reached out to the wider community through Sabah and Labuan roadshows. Vibrant parades, interactive workshops, and captivating performances enchanted both young and old, showcasing the diverse cultural tapestry of the region. The roadshows served as a reminder that music and culture transcend boundaries, connecting people from different backgrounds and fostering a sense of belonging.

Music X Zone astounded the audiences with a dynamic space where the Korean Club and Taekwondo Club explored interactive exhibits, experimented with various pocket performances, and unleashed their creativity. The Music X Zone became a playground of imagination, reminding everyone that music is a joyful expression of the soul.

Finally, under the starlit sky, the IMACC concert unfolded at the Chancellor Hall, captivating the audience with a grand showcase of local celebrities and artists. From powerful vocal performances to breathtaking instrumental solos, the stage shimmered with talent and passion. The crowd, united in their love for music, swayed to the rhythm, their hearts echoing the melodies that stirred their souls.

As the festival drew to a close, its echoes lingered in the hearts and minds of all who had experienced its magic. The music and culture festival at MSU had not only celebrated the beauty of sound and diversity but had also kindled a flame of unity and understanding among people from different backgrounds. It was a testament to the profound impact that music and culture can have on our lives, bridging gaps, and bringing us closer together as a global family. And so, the festival left an indelible mark, a legacy of harmony and shared experiences that would resonate for years to come.
