Change is something that you decide and do for yourself. It is not based on other people’s opinions or influenced by what the rest of the world tells you. Change is personal. Once someone decides to go towards a different direction and improve their lives, it is a sign of growth and a step closer to success. Sabri Leman took the first step to change his life when he joined Management and Science University (MSU). Now, as the owner of Light Green Enterprise, a successful chain of printing and sublimation service providers, Mohd Sabri has created and followed his own path as an entrepreneur. More than 10 years later, he still thinks about how MSU has played an important role in changing his life.

“MSU is the stepping stone for me to change my life. I specifically chose MSU, back then known as PTPL in Seremban to kickstart my entrepreneurship journey. I made a promise to myself that I wanted to become a businessman. I am always grateful for the years that I spent at MSU. They truly changed my mindset and helped me transcend my small idea into the business that I run today. Even with all the great experiences that I had at MSU, education remained my top priority. I was always neck to neck with my wife because we were coursemates.  We always challenge each other. In the end, I graduated with a 3.7 CGPA and so did she. That is how big of an impact MSU has had on my life. Not only was it the starting point of my business, but MSU also introduced me to my life partner, my wife,” as Sabri recalled.

Through some research and just by focusing on what was going on around him, Mohd Sabri learned very early on that the demand in the printing business was very high. In 2017, he started his own industrial printing and sublimation company in Taman Alam Jaya, Cheras. Light Green started with just a single machine and two employees. Fast forward to today, it operates with seven machines run by more than 20 employees. The growth has been consistent for Light Green but just like any other businesses during the pandemic, it went through a very rough patch and making it to the other side fully intact was not easy for Sabri and his team.

“The biggest challenge for Light Green was to stay afloat amidst the peak of the pandemic. Even though we were witnessing the temporary downfall of the world economy, our company decided to just carry on. We refused to give up without a fight. I witnessed a lot of other businesses selling their machines during the pandemic. Instead of doing that, we kept going and growing with more factories and even more machines for us to keep up with the demands. We continue to grow to get to where we are today with more than 10 branches across Malaysia,” Sabri said.

With everything that he has achieved with Light Green so far, Sabri has definitely changed his life. He always tries to give back to the society in hope of playing a part, regardless of how big or small, in changing other people’s lives, especially the less fortunate as well as up-and-coming entrepreneurs.

“Do not forget your parents. If you made some extra money, even as little as RM50 or RM100, give it to your parents so that they can be proud and get a little taste of your success. I always practice this right from the beginning. During Light Green’s seventh anniversary, we invited over some orphans because we wanted to celebrate with them and bring some joy to these young children. We also worked with universities including MSU to help the flood victims a couple of years back, not only in the form of necessities and monetary aid but also on-site to provide manpower,” he added, as he took a glimpse over the path he had traversed to impose changes on the community through his venture.

As for aspiring business owners out there, Sabri keeps telling them that it is not that much about the capital because anyone can start something from scratch especially today with social media as a business platform. They just need to be patient, save up and when the time comes, start something small first. “In business, you need courage. If you want to become an entrepreneur, you cannot keep second-guessing yourself. A business owner needs to be daring and always sure when making their decision,” said Sabri, sharing his words of wisdom.
