Being in the medical field in the 21st century calls for an unprecedented approach to be adopted by all of its practitioners to revolutionise their practices by integrating cutting-edge innovation and technologies. Kavirani Nadarajan embraces this radical shift in healthcare through her profession as a certified Occupational Health Doctor (OHD) and the incumbent Director of Aryan Healthcare Sdn. Bhd. Equipped with more than a decade’s worth of experience as a general practitioner in both the public and private sectors, she established Klinik Medi Royal to provide occupational healthcare and general practice services to the surrounding community in Shah Alam. She kickstarted her interest in the healthcare profession with a diploma in medical laboratory technology from Management and Science University (MSU).

Who would have thought that simply learning through years of observation and constant training would eventually lead one’s journey onto a path full of surprises? For Kavirani, she appreciated every knowledge and experience gained throughout her previous years of learning and working with reputable partners as well as renowned individuals specialising in her field. Eager to amplify the knowledge and exposure gained from her diploma study, she embarked on the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme at AIMST University before completing her Master’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health Risk Management from Open University Malaysia (OUM ).

“Once I graduated, I served as a medical officer and did my housemanship in Sabah for almost six years. I later undertook a career shift to continue to serve as a general practitioner at a chain clinic for almost five years. Through all these garnered experiences over the years, I thought that it would be just right for me to establish my service under the umbrella of Aryan Healthcare,” she explained.

In many professions, the chances for one to develop long-lasting impacts and satisfaction are very much anticipated. According to Kavirani, her journey as a general practitioner for more than a decade has significantly improved her expertise in dealing with wound management.

“Attending to all of those patients with wounds and seeing them recover from those wounds gives satisfaction to me. It gives me a sense of responsibility to treat those patients, especially those who succumb to diabetic wounds, and the successful healing means as if I had done something extra for the patients. It also sharpened my overall understanding and ways to deal with different types of wounds, whereas some mild wounds or injuries can be treated with less intricacies, while some may require extensive procedures and a longer recovery period,” she added.

Reminiscing her academic experience at MSU, Kavirani had gone through considerably challenging twists and turns to achieve her dreams. She remembered the moment of loss of her loved one and the hardships that she went through that had shaken her spirit during her earlier years. She, however, was able to find solace in pursuing her dream career with MSU which groomed her to become the person she imagined to be.

“My earlier schooling days were not all sunshine and rainbows if that is how you want to put it. Losing my loving father at that time hit me hard and life started to get even harder at that time with my mother being the sole breadwinner for the family. My late father was bed-ridden for eight months before we lost him, and that moment became a key to my current passion in the medical field and healthcare profession so that I can help people to live meaningful life and reduce their pain. It is a way of giving back to the community, I would say. That was when my decision to enroll in MSU’s Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology was taken. It was a hard-to-miss opportunity for me,” Kavirani said as she expressed her gratitude to be given such a life-changing opportunity.

Realising her truest journey had just begun, Kavirani was actively involved in various clubs and associations at MSU. For her, academic prowess must be aligned with co-curricular excellence as well to develop multi-talented and holistic future graduates. Back in her diploma years, she actively participated in many students’ development programmes organised by the Students and Career Development (SCD) unit apart from being one of the Student Representative Council (SRC) as a sport and recreation exco. These instances significantly impacted her personal growth and soft skills development which she finds to be exceptionally useful for those who wanted to be in professional careers.

“The vision that I offer under the Aryan Healthcare and Klinik Medi Royal is rather simple and powerful; to serve the community with affordable and easily accessible healthcare services at the right spot. These are the values of our services that we are trying to centralise. We also lauded government’s call for affordable healthcare programme, undertaking various involvement in PEKA B40 free medical screening and Skim Perubatan MADANI to cater for the needing community in Shah Alam,” she postulated.

“Be onboard towards continuous progress and one shall remain adept at what he or she does. Experience is our best teacher. Growing up in hardships has resorted me to leverage knowledge as a life-changing quality. Life is a challenge and we need to ensure that we cater to all of those challenges without forsaking our work-life or study-life balance,” she emphasised, leaving her advice for the next generation of future professionals.
