Each dragon year is associated with one of the five elements in Chinese astrology: metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. This adds a supplementary layer of meaning and influences the particular characteristics associated with each dragon year. 2024’s Dragon Year is an Earth Dragon, known for stability, practicality, and the essence of material success.

A cultural celebration afternoon was brought to MSU Chancellor Hall through the collaborative efforts of the Student and Career Development (SCD) Department and the Chinese Culture Society (CCS) of Management and Science University (MSU).

Marking the arrival of the Year of the Dragon on February 10 for this Chinese New Year, the celebration at MSU resounded with the familiar shouts of Heng Ah! Ong Ah! Huat Ah! and a lion dance treat. Welcoming a diverse crowd of over 1,000 local and international students, the celebration provided an opportunity for intercultural experience and the shared experience of familial warmth.

Ten MSU College branches around the country, as well as MSU offshore campuses and allied international universities, were streaming online.

MSU President, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, joined in on the customary tossing of the raw-fish salad Yee Sang (also Yusheng, Yu Sahng, or Lo Sahng) together with students and staff of the University.

The entertainment for the afternoon comprised singing, dancing, and a drum presentation by the 24 Seasons Drums group from SMK Kota Kemuning.
