The Medical and Health Science clusters forming the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS), International Medical School (IMS), and School of Pharmacy (SPH) at Management and Science University (MSU) anchored the year’s first edition of the biannual programme, the 21st International Medical, Pharmaceutical, Cosmeceutical, and Health Science Symposium (iMPaCHS).

Hosted by the School of Pharmacy, the symposium embraced the theme Health Beyond Borders: Global Perspective on Medical Excellence, extending its reach to international researchers. The symposium featured a sum of 86 presenters, comprising 56 local and 30 international participants, delivering 14 oral presentations, 30 posters, and 42 e-posters.

The international partner universities participating, primarily via Zoom E-Meeting, were Mandsaur University, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Girijananda Chowdhury University, KMCH College of Pharmacy, Amity University (Noida), and Suresh Gyan Vihar University (Rajasthan) in India; Poltekes Surakarta, Jakarta Global University, Universitas Muhammadiyah, Universitas Hang Tuah, Tadulako University, and Universitas Airlangga in Indonesia; Qassim University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; and Pokhara University in Nepal.

Tuan Azahar Ibrahim, the Selangor State Director of Agriculture, and Katrina Tan from the Henan University of Chinese Medicine (HUCM) delivered the keynote addresses at iMPaCHS 21.

Through the theme underscored, the symposium serves as a well-timed platform for cultivating a worldwide outlook and comprehensive analysis of medical excellence. The University is gaining recognition for its persistent efforts to establish research ecosystems and projects founded on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). AIA-KN Prince Agency, represented by Lim Tian Seng, contributed RM 10, 000 to Yayasan MSU in support of charitable causes; the fund was received through a mock cheque by Dato’ Rosli Yusof, Senior Vice President Endowment & Communication.

Nur Asikin Aulia from the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology (Hons) programme at the SPH, for GC-MS Phytochemical Profiling and In Silico Studies of Clinacanthus Nutans Leaves: A Promising Candidate Antioxidant Agent; Abu Dzar Mohd Shah from the Bachelor in Cardiovascular Technology (Hons) programme at the FHLS, for Recreational Runners in Klang Valley, Selangor; and Siti Nurhannah Irdina Hasmar Honiz from the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Hons) programme at the FHLS, for Antioxidant and Antiperoxidative Effects of Sea Sponges (Porifera Grant Spp) in Heart Failure Rat Model, each received a consolation prize.

Clinching the Best Local Research category are the MSU School of Graduate Studies (SGS) postgraduate students from the Master in Science (by Research) Biomedicine programme, Raaginie Tamil Segaran, for Unravelling the Effect of Chalcone Hybridization on Lox Inhibitory Properties of Thga as Anti-Asthmatic Drug Lead, Through In-Vitro and in Silico Approaches; and Tarshni Murale for Comparative Study on the Effect of Hydrophilic & Hydrophobic Polymers on the Dissolution of Metformin Gliclazide Extended-Release Bilayer Tablet.

Sunil Shrestha, from Monash University, for Impact of Pharmacist-Led Intervention on Pain-Related Outcomes: An Umbrella Review of Published Systematic Reviews; and Binaya Sapkota from Sunway University, for Pharmacists’ Level of Awareness, Readiness, and Practice Towards Safe and Sustainable Pharmaceutical Waste Management in Malaysia, each won the Best International Research category.
